Lango

Artist of The Month Jan 2022: Lango

One of the few artists we had on our radar when we first came out, Baton Rouge-based artist Lango has been making waves for himself and has slowly been building his career by releasing nonstop heat. A musician that is no stranger to taking risks, all while pushing the boundaries of his sound. Since 2018, with every new release, Lango looks to set himself apart from his peers by creating a sound you’ll find yourself constantly going back because one listen just isn’t enough! One of the first projects we listened to was 2018’sMelting Point’. At that time Lango was still cutting his teeth as an underground artist but this project was the perfect introduction for him and his sound. Featuring productions from LUKRATIVE, ILLUD, Worldwidetak, and even doing some himself. Even in our infancy, ‘Melting Point’ stood out to us as such a high-quality project from a novice in this big industry.

Following that project, Lango really locked in. From 2019 to now it seems as though he’s been on a nonstop run to see how far he can not only push himself creatively, but see where he can take his career and further his reach to new audiences. After ‘Melting Point’, Lango released two projects, Gameroom and Warthog’. Fast forward to 2021, he really took things up a notch with Wikk Tapes. If all his other projects were just practice, then ‘Wikk Tapes’ truly raised the bar for himself as an artist! With experimental sounds it worked out for the best with stand-out songs like: Obvious featuring Three65, ‘Back Outside’, ‘Call Byron’ , ‘Russia’, and all of the new songs added to the deluxe edition of the project.

With his new project ‘Speedin’ Through Life’, Lango has once again solidified himself as a powerhouse artist that should be on your radar. Featuring guest appearances from XABIEL LUCIA, BLÜ, Michael Armstead, Three65, and Matt Hue. ‘Speedin’ Through Life’ is Lango’s best project to date! Each song fits in perfectly with the overall sound of the project, each guest feature feels hand-picked, and the production is what really makes this project stand out as a whole. Lango is our pick as ‘ARTIST OF THE MONTH’ for January 2022. He continuously pushes himself to new heights by never remaining comfortable, taking risks, and always looking to see elevating how he can elevate to new levels with each release. The year just started, but ‘Speedin’ Through Life’ as an early contender for best underground project of the year and Lango is on the trajectory of establishing himself as the next big artists to command media attention. Check out our feature with him below and be sure to listen to his new album ‘Speedin’ Through Life

Lango congratulations on releasing one of the best albums of 2022 so far with your new project ‘Speedin’ Through Life’ give us an update on what’s been going on with you?

Thanks and I think I’ve been mostly good lately. I just moved out to Atlanta and I’ve just been trying to find a way to leave a mark out here.

Since your 2019 project ‘Gameroom’ you’ve been releasing all heat including “Warthog”, and “Wikk Tapes’. With “Speedin’ Through Life” you’ve raised the bar for yourself, so just talk us through this new project. What inspired the name of the project, when did you start working on it, and what was your favorite aspect of putting your album together.

I started working on this project around September of 2021. After the summer ended the year was kinda tough for me. So much was going on to the point I felt super numb. So days were just flying by, I just felt like I was speeding through life. And all my songs during that time were slower more emotional tunes. Coincidentally it resembles speeding bullet to heaven which I promise was not on purpose. My favorite part was just being able to pick songs that were different than what I usually put out. The more emotional, meaningful messages.

The cover goes CRAZY! How did it come together?

My younger brother had just launched his film production company Mondo Digital, and I was like shoot some stuff for me so you can have some content to start with. He ended up shooting a clip of me acting crazy in the woods with my face painted and clipped that image. So we just thought it was tight and went with it.

So from front to back every song feels hand-picked and perfectly placed on the project even the features (which include XABIEL LUCIA, BLÜ, MICHEAL ARMSTEAD, Slimm, THREE65, and MATT HUE) complement the overall project. So just break down the production for us who did you tap in for that, how did you pick your features for this project, and what’s it like working with everybody?

For this album I kinda kept it down to my day one main producer camp buddies. Worlwidetak, Patty Mills, Arixs, Grant $aint, DJ bean, W8up and Matt Hue. Dumpy mastered most of it and Chad Roby mastered a couple, they came in last minute clutch. These guys kinda know me pretty well and know exactly what variety I like and they also all love my music. I also worked with my friends from college his name is Khari, he sent me a beat on some random. I kinda use Matt Hue in a Mike Dean sense, he adds finishing touches to certain songs. Like the outro on world is mine, or the bridge on release it, and the outro on always early. He’s good at being the glue for stuff I can’t finish.

Also Michael Armstead produced the intro track, and did some vocals on Bentley Baton Rouge and the bridge in Release it. He was last minute all over the damn tape. But dude is incredible. He’s an artists out of Baton Rouge as well as Slimm who I newly got to work with. She also did some amazing vocals on Bentley Baton Rouge. Blü is an artist from Nola. After Matt sent me the always early outro I tried to sing on it but I was like this needs to be for her. Her voice is perfect for that shit idk. I think that’s one of the best songs I’ve ever made. Xabiel is on the intro track and is this amazing alternative artist and man his voice is incredible to me. This guy sang his whole verse in Spanish, I almost wreck my car and shit on myself when I heard it. Very slept on dude and very high ceiling for potential. Last but not least my boy Three65. You already know what it is with him.

Bro you and THREE65 go crazy together you guys really blew our minds with “Obvious” back in 2021, and “WORLD IS MINE” is even better. So what’s it like working with him, how long have you guys been working together, and would you guys ever do a collab EP or album together?

I’ve been workin with him for years, since he was like 16. We been locked in for a very long time and he hit a point where he just went full singer out of this world. Nobody sounds like him. I see him as my only contemporary just cause we came up together. And I think we work better when we just got a song or two floating around. I don’t like collab records.

So on our end our favorite songs off your project are ‘ALWAYS EARLY’, ‘BENTLEY BATON’ ‘ROUGE’, ‘WORLD IS MINE,’ ‘Lighten Up’, and ‘Speedin Through Life’. Tell us about each of these songs, and what are your favorite songs?

Always early was produced by Patty Mills. Just a track about how I value being on time for shit lmao. Bentley Baton Rouge was a song I actually slept on produced by Arixs and W8up. World is mine another one by Arixs, Lighten up by Arix and Tak, and speeding through life by Tak. My favorite song is Thank God produced by my friends from college, Khari, or the outro to lighten up which I produced.

So what’s next for you in 2022 where do you want to be by the end of the year any new music on the way?

By the end of the year I want to have increased my net worth, done a tour or two, Dropped a song that has surpassed my biggest song in streams. Stay in the gym, just have a bunch of stuff to say in December that I’m proud of, cause at the end of 2021 I didn’t have much to say. And yes I’m gonna drop so much music and content I can’t wait.

Any last words?

Thank you Nefarious Supply for sticking with me all this time. Thanks to Byron Ju Jax and all the other boys. Ion wanna say too much cause I’m still tryna take my own advice but one thing I never did was stop being myself so just keep doing that and you’ll be fine.

Nefarious Underground 5

This week we at Nefarious Supply are gifting you all with another list of vastly talented and underrated artists. From blue dreams to baby mamas, artists such as Lango, TWNTYFOUR, Noddy North, THREE65, LNLYBOY, and Serena Isioma all make beautiful contributions to this week’s playlist and we’ll be getting into the some brief descriptions of some of these efforts below!

IMG_3445.jpg

The playlist opens up with a hard-hitting slow banger, “doubt”, by Eddy Benz, featuring Noddy North. The song surrounds the concept of debt and uneasiness in a world full of anticipating individuals. THREE65 fits perfectly on the feature, bringing the song to a much needed head towards the final bridge.

As if taking the baton away from Eddy, Noddy North crowns the next track with a brand new single of his own. “New Me” is a track centered around Noddy’s rebirth since his rise to fame. He rides over a saddened “Futsal Shuffle”-esque beat and runs from verse to verse with effortless flows and lyricism.

Throwing a long pass back to our playlist’s first feature, THREE65 takes it back with “LOOK WHAT YOU’VE DONE!”, produced by WORLDWIDETAK. On the track, 65 bemoans the company and presence of a specific female, saying how she makes him feel lost and crooning into titular chorus, overtop smooth and dark 808s.

IMG_3447.jpg

Fan favorite Stephen Jailon makes an appearance with his new single “Achoo!”. He talks about various topics, such as fake friends, new business ventures, how fast his life is moving how he wishes to slow it down sometimes. Over a solid trap beat, Jailon solidifies himself yet again.

TWNTYFOUR is back with another banger. “Problems” showcases the artist’s struggle with the everyday problems in his life. He croons “I’ve been sad but girl you know me”, and promises his love for the girl in question is deeper than most, as well as their connection. With top-notch production, TWNTYFOUR does it yet again.

Dutchboy and SAZ come together on the former’s new track “Oblivion”. While Dutchboy swoons over the girl of his dreams, SAZ comes in with a dreamy addition, bringing the track into his world, telling the listener he has all the time in the world, and how beautiful the feeling is to truly be in oblivion.

LNLYBOY’s drop “Honey Boy” takes us through his pride as an artist, the subtlest of flexes over a slow and bouncy beat and the eprfect use of autotune, as always. LNLYBOY crafts an entire vibe within two-minutes and twenty-seven seconds.

IMG_3448.jpg

Lango drops one of our favorite songs off the playlist with “Baby Mama”, a crowd mover off the sheer energy of the chorus alone, Lango uses minimal lyricism and uncompromising aggressiveness to ride the equally unshakeable 808 that’s sure to make the floor vibrate.

Serena Isioma’s “Sensitive” is a groovy and hard-hitting masterpiece. Serena switches between flow after flow and warns against people taking her shit, threatening to take their girl in retaliation. WIth an infectious chorus and a beautiful beat-switch towards the latter half of the track, Serena leaves her talent all over this track.

Doc Drvddy slides through with a jovial end to our underground playlist with his new track “Daily”, in which he reminisces on his life before his fame, whilst rapping about his daily routine of smoking a jay and rolling with the gang. He finishes his chorus of the upbeat and polished production with “I’ve been real since them days as a baby.”

With other new gems sprinkled within the mix, our NS Underground 5 is complete, check it out below!

Eddy Benz - VOUYER

IMG_0010.jpeg

Yo-yo what’s up what’s up bro! Great to have you on Nefarious Supply once again, so to get this interview started last time we had met you we’re getting ready to release your newest body of work, VOYEUR. Now that it’s out what can you tell us about it?

Thank you! So if I could sum up Voyeur I’d say it’s a 30-minute journey into my subconscious. Each song is pretty straight to the point and draws you in immediately.  The album covers all the highs and lows and all the emotions in between. By using different vocal effects and registers I’m able to express mania, paranoia, anxiety, happiness, the feeling of being trapped, the feeling of freedom, etc..

What inspired VOYEUR and how does this new body of work contributes to your overall sound, image, and goals?

The feeling of disconnect between my body and mind sort of inspired the album. Just general discontent. The desire to improve but feeling trapped and stagnant. My situation in life had a lot to do with it. I was failing my classes and working a shit job. I felt like music was the only difference I could make in my life and anyone else’s. I just want people to feel the music and have it fuel them to make positive changes even though the message is not always positive.

IMG_0002.jpeg

So let’s take a deep dive into Vouyer as far as producing the whole thing is solid and features some amazing producers Maxvon, Kudzu, Lukrative, Lango, and much more. How did you pair up with the producers and how did their production process match the vibe you we’re shooting for with the project?

I’ve always liked the concept of mixing high and low. I apply that to my fashion too. Mixing high end and low end. Vintage and new technology. I apply the same ethos when selecting sounds and producers. Half of the producers are local and the other half are from all over. Yet the sound selection is still cohesive. I’m only gonna shout out my friends here because those are my guys and we’re all coming up together. DJ Bean, JL Beats, Lukrative, Habeats, Maxvon, Stankface, Matt Hue, sinfected, Dumpy... all fuckin legends man! Shout out Geeohhs too man we need to get more work in! They helped make this album what it is. All the credit goes to them.

So as far as features I gotta say you tapped nothing but talent including Three65, Lango, Tasty, and lil nissan. How often do you work with each of these artists and how did each of them contribute something unique to VOYEUR?

Bruh Three65 is a legend. Watching his metamorphosis throughout 2019 has been incredible. Lango is my brother man we’ve been working together and we’re gonna continue to make hits for the foreseeable future. 2020 is his for the taking. This is my first time completing a song with Tasty. We actually recorded that song in the stu together. The hook just fuckin cake to me like there was divine intervention. Pure magic. And I and Lil Nissan grew up down the street from one another. He’s who I started this shit with.

IMG_0005.jpeg

Walk us through each track?

I’ll walk through a few tracks with y’all. So it begins with “I’m a mess”. This song is eerie as fuck and reminds me of a schizophrenic episode. From there the album gets aggressive FAST! Then it mellows out toward the middle then gets kind of angsty and RnB inspired toward the end.

Then finally we’ve made it to the end. “Tip Top” closes out the album with pure mania. I feel unstoppable when I hear that song. It’s a perfect way to close off the album. The album is like an acid trip man. You experience every emotion.

What’s your favorite track on each album, and why?

My favorite track on the last EP has got to be “fuck a job” with my bro Lil Nissan. That’s the fuckin anthem. And for this one, I’m gonna say “Feeling Like This All Year” with Tasty is my favorite right now. It sums up in 2019. It’s a good place to leave off from last year.

IMG_0007.jpeg

Okay so it’s finally a new year and the start of a completely new decade, what can fans expect from you this year and where do you see yourself going over the next decade?

So this year I’m thinking about dropping two tapes and an album. I’ll be working with a lot of locals and helping to create a platform for my friends. Expect a lot of videos from my boy Matt! And for the decade? I really don’t know man. Just expect to hear from me consistently because I’m in this shit for the long haul. And I’m always ALWAYS evolving and improving.

Any last words??

I WANNA WATCH THE WORLD BURN

Lango

Q.

Who is Lango? What themes and cultures encompass who you are as an artist?

To be honest I'm still trying to find out who or what I am. But I definitely know I'm an artist. I've always been my entire life but music brought it full circle. I try to represent people like me as well as I can. I know it can be hard to embrace artistry because a lot of it is saying "fuck it" and trying new things. And that type of stuff brings you a lot of hell from individuals around you or your loved ones, or even your own self doubt. All these things I've battled over the years so I just want to serve as inspiration to take a chance with yourself. As far as themes that encompass me, I like to express the dark side of myself the most. I know how that sounds, but its something about that dark emotions and dark air that express vulnerability, and vulnerability opens you up to be listened to. As far as cultures go, shit, Hip Hop is the greatest culture of the all time. I'm a kid from the suburbs but everything about me Hip Hop. And Baton Rouge, Louisiana raised me, I think people from there are just a different than most.

Q.

Who or what were your inspirations behind these themes and cultures? How did they influence you to become the artist you are today?

My biggest artist inspirations are from Kanye, Yung Lean, Boosie, Future, Travis, Tyler, and some old school stuff I fw. I really like what Yung lean contributes to music. I'm a big fan of obscurity as well and I think he does it the best out of all rappers, if you even want to call him a rapper. He makes the type of stuff you watch and you ask "what does this mean? There must be a deeper meaning" when its probably just don't mean shit to be honest, just random creative self expression, or maybe it has a deeper meaning, who knows. Just leaving stuff up to the viewer to interpret. Then the production is insane, guys like Whitearmor or Yung Gud, Yung Sherman, all producers for Lean, shit just be fire son. You really gotta hear it yourself because I cant put words to that type of stuff.  Really I just draw inspiration from all these guys and use my life experiences to make it something special for me.

A9CE7DF8-C600-4976-B981-93AD9C3511FA.jpg

Q.

How do you incorporate these themes and cultures into your music?

IMG_3285.JPG

I literally just be like what would Yung lean and Kanye do. Then I add my spin on it lol based on my life experiences. Nothing is really new under the sun I guess. That goes for beats as well. I was a producer first. So bringing that dark energy/obscurity/personality into my stuff is important to me. And I also always want to be as real as Boosie. No matter what. I don't agree with everything he says, but I respect him cause that nigga don't give a fuck who agrees.

Q.

What do you think is the most important aspect of music as a concept?

I think effort is important. Cause there's really no such thing as bad music. Its 7 billion people on this planet , somebody will like your shit bro. But for me its about how hard did you work on that song or project. I don't get how people just knock out 6-7 songs a night and they be finished. Don't get me wrong the songs be fire but it doesn't impress me, and they here today and gone tomorrow. Just based on the fact I'm never satisfied with myself, I spend a lot of time working on one thing. Idk shit just doesn't impress me anymore, and everything is so replaceable. I get its the streaming era though but man music does not last anymore, even movies, or clothing, to me it seems like art is disposable in 2019. Even stuff I've made to be honest. I'm preaching to myself as well. But Rome wasn't built in a day.

Q.

What do you think personally sets you apart from the rest of your peers in the music industry? What do you bring to the table that you believe no one else can?

I don't have shit that no one else cant bring. There is probably 100 Langoes out there waiting for me to slip. I think what makes me different is I tapped into something most people don't know how to tap into. And that's being yourself. And I know that's cliche as hell.  And its even more cliche when I say it's cliche lol. But that shit is facts son. I know how to catch people's attention in a way most people cant. When I perform I look people dead in their eyes and it scares the shit out of em. But they never forget me. Everywhere I go as Lango I make sure when I leave I'll never be forgotten. If I gotta throw scrubs on and paint my face and hop on the speaker performing 'Flashbang' like I'm insane, or whatever I do. I might have to pull my wiener out I honestly don't care bro. I stopped caring a long time ago.

IMG_3470.JPG

Q.

Where do you think you would be at this very moment if you weren't pursuing your career in music?

I'd be in medical school. Or working. I just know life would be easier than it is now. Music made everything very complicated.

Q.

Walk us through the steps you take to create a track. What is your creative process? Do you happen to just walk into the studio and make magic happen? Or is there a more delicate process involved?

I usually freestyle rambling  noise over the beat, sounding like an idiot. But it helps me come up with flows or melodies. Then I just write or punch in like its a puzzle. I have so much unfinished work like that. Occasionally I write songs as well. The magic really comes in after I get the words down though. Adding the effects and fw song progression or adding more production, playing with features. Sometimes once you get the lyrics laid down it opens a door for more stuff that you could do production wise as opposed to when it was just the beat alone. Then I just it and listen to it over and over again for like 3 weeks. That's why it takes me forever to finish music.

Q.

Lastly, what advice or experiences would you like to share with your peers or anyone else who is up and coming in this industry?

Do as much as you can and learn a much as you can on your own. When I wanted to be a musician I learned to make beats. When I wanted to be a recording artist I learned to engineer. When I wanted to do shows I pitched myself, sent out emails, booked stuff myself.  Shot my first video myself. Currently I'm trying to figure out the legal side of this music shit. Copyright and stuff like that, SMH. But its necessary as hell. If people fw what your doing you wont have to do anything yourself. And I've definitely had lots of help thanks to my friends and family. But its a blessing when shit hits the fan and you can handle your own.

Also, is there anything you'd like for us to promote?

Yup check out my album 'Melting Point' on all streaming platforms, check out my newest single 'AGE' on all platforms, and check out my newest music video 'OMG' on YouTube . Lots more stuff to come :).
