Duality - Luna Li

Luna Li brings a fresh take to alternative music with Duality. The Toronto artist creates atmospheric tracks that draw you into the universes your ears never knew they could envision. On songs such as Cherry Pit, Luna incorporates an incredible guitar solo after a mesmerizing hook and verse combination up until it’s halfway point. Luna’s voice is soothing yet her message is strong.

“You said you’d be my trust, but you didn’t even bother.” ; “And you planted all these roots, just to sit and watch them wither.” she sings on Flower, featuring Dreamer Isioma (with a lovely verse of their own). Luna is a beautiful vocalist and an even better songwriter, and Duality has proved that to us thirteen times over!

Subaru Boys: FINAL HEAVEN - Cruel Santino

Cruel Santino is one of our favorite artists, since Mandy & the Jungle. In this new world Santi brings us into Subaru Boys takes on a psychedelic, afro-powered, braggadocio-ridden sound that invigorates the listener with ever track. The whole 21-track album doesn't even truly feel its actual length due to Santi’s effortless flows, incredible production, and beautiful storytelling. Cannot wait to hear more from the Subaru Boys, and it would be a great idea to keep him on your radar all year!

To Whom Much Is Given - StashtheWave

Massachusetts has been absolutely on fire the past couple of years, with new artists emerging such as BIA and Van Buren Records, as well as amazing producers such as AziztheShake and others beginning to take the helm, it was only a matter of time before StashtheWave made his presence known. To Whom Much Is Given is a sobering, hard-hitting, trap-embed, journey into the mind of the upcoming MA artist, and on the three-track EP, featuring fellow upcoming artists Jiles, Donald Grunge, Clyde Black, Notebook P, and a few more! Go check it out, the man’s been heat since he arrived.

Goodnight Dreamer - Dreamer Isioma

Goodnight Dreamer is the first full-length LP from singer-songwriter Dreamer Isioma. The project consisted of four different chapters he’d put up prior to the release, featuring fellow Chicago artist, Hatesonny. The chapters in order: “who are you?” ; “what time is it?” ; “what do you choose?” ; and “always.” set us up for the world Dreamer wanted to bring us into, a groovy, introspective, and intricately woven introduction into who he who was, and who he has become, and who he will be.

Exquisite Pain - Convict Julie

Convict Julie is able to merge elements of the Weekend’s haunting vocals with the dark, melancholy, and extremely sobering production. Her lyrics are cold as ice, and yet yearning for the warmth that seems to be just out of her reach. On Exquisite Pain this side of her shines. On Dark Matter, she sings: “Let the lord be my witness, that I’ll make it out the storm.” showing the hope peaking through the dark, deep thunderclouds where her beautiful art exists. Exquisite Pain is an absolute gem and must be admired as such, please go stream today if possible!

MYMHM - August 25, 2021

$avvy - Calling it Quits

Calling it Quits is the latest single from our Nashville-bred star, $avvy. Coming off the hot release of his new video for “Zack & Cody” a smooth ballad from the shiny, braggadocious, yet intricately contemplative Boys Wear Pearls. On this new track, one that has been the headline for his newly advertised “BEFORE POOR TOUR”, Savvy comes to grips with the end of a tumultuous relationship. It seems as if both parties know the end is near with Savvy admitting how toxic the entire situation has been so far, though not without throwing a mild, tongue-in-cheek jab at her not-so-good behavior. It sounds like another classic is on the horizon for $avvy, and if anyone is tuned in, you know we are.

Nas - Rare

Nas is a legend. We all know this, that isn’t what this is about. King’s Disease is so much more than the legend itself, it’s about what you do with all the power that you now have that matters, and Nas makes that evidently clear on both his King’s Disease and King’s Disease II albums. Both produced by famed hitmaker, Hit-Boy.  The song “rare” especially stands out for its floaty yet grittily grounded juxtaposing production. Nas speaks on how the heights he’s reached have formed him into a new breed of rapper, a rapper in rare form. The beat switches midway and Nas begins to lay down intellectual lyricism over a more slowed down and deliberate beat. Ultimately our favorite song on the album, minus the Lauryn Hill feature of course ;).

Marquel - COLD

Marquel has been on a fire streak for the past few weeks. After the release of his new album, Love, Rage & Enlightenment, Marquel hit new heights of stardom and recognition in his community, simultaneously cementing himself as a young star in the making. On the track COLD, executive produced by 301Music, a local and upcoming producer within the DMV area, Marlon bares his soul at his conflict with a girl

Hatesonny - WHAT U KNOW BOUT THAT (ft. 3name)

Hatesonny is back! The young Chicago legend is making waves once more since the drop of his music video for .Lead single “Kill Bill”. WHAT U KNOW BOUT THAT is a sonny-bred banger with the signature touch the artist leaves on all his trap-infused alternative production. The song is simply a vibe, check it out in anticipation of his new album!AGNB!

Shaker - My Bad

Shaker is a new artist on our platform but one that needs recognition, especially after the drop of his latest single, “My Bad”. With an almost masterful use of autotune, Shaker croons over a broody and melodic instrumental, one which compliments his voice and subject matter so well that it almost sounds as if they’re responding to one another. The topic of this track stems from feelings of nonchalance and apathy. Shaker mocks his haters and asks why they’re really so cross with him? Was it because they weren’t making money? Was it because they had no love in their lives? Shaker inquires with mirth and spite.

Intro - Jump Out the Whip

Intro’s Jump Out the Whip takes a nice flow, reminiscent of a current Isaiah Rashad, with the dreamy and the full production dancing in the background, creating a colorful atmosphere for the rapper to get his thoughts off of his chest in a calm and clever manner. On the song, the rapper talks about how to get ladies with just a sniff, how he’s stylish even in some ones and a pair of sweats, how others can keep their woman down, especially after he Jumps Out the Whip. It’s a very chill vibe that was a nice inclusion to our list.

Foolie $urfin & ihateyouALX - Loading…

Foolie $urfin and ihateyouALX cruise atop a beautifully sparse and deep-pocketed production. The two artists trade verses about growing up in the trenches with pipe dreams of becoming famous one day, even though they still have bills to pay and still eat fast food daily to get by. Also topics of hate, high stakes, Kobe reminiscence, getting high to feel inspiration, and a promise to give it your all before ever thinking of hanging it up.

[MYMHM 4] - Aminé - Limbo

Aminé, having taken time to ride the wave of his 2018 project, ONEPOINTFIVE, with critical hits such as REEL IT IN and BLACKJACK, comes back harder than ever, and with more maturity and expertise to complement the confidence, smooth flow, and playful production that’s made Aminé the accomplished artist he is today.

Amine describes Limbo in similar fashion to his previous project, as a “sophmore-ish” album, filled with his hopes, fears, and experiences during what he also denotes as something of a “quarter-life crisis”.

Check out our five favorite tracks from this amazing project! 😈

Woodlawn

Woodlawn is the first track on the album and immediately captured our eyes with Aminé’s signature energy, riding the wave of the flute-led production with precision and lyrical creativity. In the song, the Portland artist reminisces about the times back in his neighborhood of Woodlawn. He also extends a shout out to Kobe Bryant, one of the world’s best basketball players, as well as a role model to many, including Aminé himself. Woodlawn is also dedicated to a recently incarcerated friend, according to Aminé, and he used the chorus of this track to detail his first time playing the song for his friend, who is seemingly named “Marc”.

Roots (ft. JID & Charlie Wilson)

Roots is the second track on the album and Aminé’s taps into his Turf and Dakota partner in crime, Charlie Wilson. The two decide to team up with Dreamville heavyweight, JID who delves masterfully into the conceptual aspect of this track’s theme, exploring the roots of these artists’ heritage. Roots is soon seen as an obvious juxtaposition of the literal definition of plant, though the “rooted” meanings of the track stay true, and the slow, yet deliberate production create a beautiful world for the three to thrive in.

Compensating (ft. Young Thug)

Compensating is the sixth track of the album and keeps the contemporary smooth, yet bouncy vibes of Can’t Decide, the latin-inspired track prior. The song finds both Aminé and Young Thug in endless pining over their past lovers. Whatever pushed these prior relationships to fail holds deep with these two artists, who are trying to find a way to “compensate” for their past shortcomings, while admitting their guilt and responsibilities in the matter. The song is upbeat and light-hearted and Amine and Thug dance up and down the T-Minus-led production.

Becky

Becky is a slow and introspective track speaking on topics like racism and the prejudices of dating a Caucasian woman as an African-American in America. This doesn’t just stem from the issues outside of his relationship, with his entourage discouraging him and looking down on him, or he friends throwing racist chiding remarks his way because of said relationship, but also the fact that he cannot relate to her on a personal level because she doesn’t know why she likes him in the first place. At the end of the track, Aminé decides the whole thing just isn’t worth a risk.

Fetus (ft. Injury Reserve)

Fetus is probably the deepest track on the album, featuring Injury Reserve, including the late Groggs, who passed earlier this year. Aminé and crew created a song for their future children, laying out their hopes and dreams, but also their fears of coming into parenthood, like how Amine is hoping his baby doesn’t inherit his father’s cholesterol, or Ritchie wondering if he could be even half of the father that Kobe Bryant “The Mamba”, was.

This is noted to be the first track to be released since the passing of Groggs.

[MYMHM 3] pinkplata & Moflo Music - SON LAS DOS AM

PINKPLATA.jpg

pinkplata, the Guadalajara born, and now California-based artist, gave us a two-track gift basket on her newest collaboration with well-known underground producer, Moflo Music. The two collaborated on another project the year prior titled YA VOLO, which was double the amount of tracks as this one.

However, SON LAS DOS AM delivers in every way it was expected to when it comes to this duo, and solidifies pinkplata as an upcoming latin R&B artist to certainly keep your eyes on.

Below we take a brief look at the themes and concepts that come forth in this project, take a look below! 😈

Yo Te Aviso

A very latin-based and groovy production by Moflo from start to finish, Yo Te Aviso smoothly and subtly compliments Pink’s soft and sultry voice as she glides across the beat, effortlessly switching between Spanish and English (though the track is mostly sung in the former language. The chorus shows the artist’s longing for more time from her significant other, reminiscing about those 2 AM car rides with them and wondering if they could ever go back to those nights.

Frng

A beautiful follow-up to the prior track, Moflo takes the production of Frng to another aspect of a very similar style. As if a Side B to Yo Te Avisa, this track is a light-hearted and cloudy finish to the two-track project. Sanguine lyricism from Pink fall atop the beat light as a feather, yet heavy enough leave an impression for the next verse, leading you all the way through the remainder of the song without wanting it to end!

[MYMHM 1] Saint Lyor - IF MY SINS COULD TALK

IMG_4486 2.jpg

With the hustle and bustle of everyday life and the new constraints and anxieties that courses through society today, it’s easy for you to overlook certain things. Well, we here at Nefarious Supply are here to make sure your dose of underground music isn’t one of them. Here with a new segment, Music You May Have Missed, the NS team thought of recapping enticing talent that we did not get a chance to cover the previous content cycles, making sure we get every single ounce of brilliance we can out for our followers.

Our first project on this segment comes from none other than our friends over at Van Buren Records! Straight out of Brockton, Massachusetts, Van Buren’s wildcard Saint Lyor dropped his debut album, IF MY SINS COULD TALK” in early March. The freshman album stores Lyor’s takes on life, love, passion, pain, heartbreak, hunger for success, and may have answered the lifelong question that was just addressed not even two days ago by the CIA.

Are UFO’s real?

We’ll find out in our review of the LP below, enjoy! 😈

Big Facts

Coming in strong with a heavy-hitting 808, a murky melody, and perfectly-timed beat, Saint Lyor slides on the beat like butter on toast, riding out the gate with a lyrical flag, letting everyone know he is not an artist to play with. Big Facts speaks on topics of status, success, failure, lost love and friendships, and religion, all over an in-your-face opening track.

Gossip

Lyor seems to glide from dark production to light-hearted melodies and a funky 808 subtly reverberating underneasth. Gossip is Saint Lyor’s outcry against fake friends, fake love, false claims, and mock appreciation. He starts the track off by stating “No I’m not, what you thought I was…” a clear and concise summary of this track’s main message. Don’t speak on anything you don’t know about. Be allergic to it. Stay in your lane, and please don’t gossip, ust as Lyor’s mother has told him time and time again.

FBI (Interlude)

This interlude starts with a voice recording of Lyor’s mother, who seems to not be too happy with his actions, however, basically states that as he makes his bed so he will lie in it, and the VB artist knows that very well. FBI is Saint Lyor’s acclamation of faith in himself as an individual and an artist, a reminder to himself that he is all that he claims he is, the groovy production underneath his raw lyricism prove this all the more.

Aunt Jemima

Probably our favorite track on the album, Aunt Jemima is Saint Lyor’s blockbuster track. With a cyberspace-esque melody overtop a heavy 808 and hard-hitting beat embedded underneath, Lyor goes in and has fun with it, effortlessly switching his flow, to and fro in order to accomodate for the bars spitting from his lips. The chorus is absolutely addicting and hits with the beat in a synchronicity that is almost enviable. Aunt Jemima was one of the singles Lyor released before its official position on the album.

Finsta

Finsta is a more grounded addition to our tracklist. On the xylophone-like melody and swelling production underneath, Saint Lyor speaks on the dangers of the unknown when it comes to those around him, the color of his skin, and its everyday complications within society today, as well as some flaunty bars sprinkled every other cadence. Finsta is definitely a favorite amongst fans.

Sweet

Sweet is the sixth track on the LP and showcases Lyor’s rapping ability yet again, signifying this far into the album, that his flows, lyricism, and creativity are as versatile as his beats are. Sweet is weighed with topics of capitalism, haters, the need for success, past trauma, and the names of his two friends, Zack and Cody. Sweet is a subtle yet serrated track.

LESS FRIENDS MORE BANDZ (ft. Luke Bar$)

The first song with a feature on the album, LESS FRIENDS MORE BANDZ has Lyor and his fellow VB comrade Luke Bar$ playing tennis with the various flow switches by Lyor, the expressive and morbidly passionate chorus, to the up-pitched lyrical domination that is Bar$ verse, the song goes to remind those who do him wrong that Lyor isn’t in the department for friends anyway.

Wifey

Wifey is kind of a self-explanatory track, in which Saint Lyor details all that he dreams of in a woman, everything he’s willing to give her, everything he’s peeped about the woman he’s with, the lies, the conniving attitude, the love, the toxicity on both sides, cheating, and to sum it up, all the ups and downs that come with being in a relationship you are not ready for, whilst adding a dash of self-serving, confident bars.

Aliens Exist

Looks like the question has been answered. Aliens indeed do exist with the addition of this mellow banger. On the track Saint Lyor alludes himself to an alien in a world not his own and understanding that fitting in isn’t always the best thing for you to grow. Instead, it’s realizing what makes him different that gives him the confidence to see himself above the competition. Those who see what he does look at him as if he’s alien because no one is doing what Saint Lyor is doing, how Saint Lyor is doing it.

This Is Not an Image

Another fan favorite and second-to-last track on the album, This Is Not an Image is Saint Lyor’s late-night vibe track on this project. Out the gate, Lyor alludes to his African culture by declining any fufu (an expression for stupid, also an African cuisine) in his pictures. Lyor spits Drake-like bars over a resonating 808 with well-timed hi-hats. He ends the track with a reality-checking sample. “I am not good, nor is any man who claims to be.”

SINNERMAN (Outro)

SINNERMAN is the final song on Saint Lyor’s IF MY SINS COULD TALK. The flute-like, high-synth melody soars across the ever-endorsing 808 below mesh like peanut butter and jelly with Lyor’s flows and introspective lyrical content. Lyor still doesn’t know who to trust, strives to be better than those who were supposed to be for him, acknowledges himself as only a sinner, and a man, and how success can ruin the dream you had to get there. SINNERMAN is the most Saint Lyor looks in the mirror and the hardest whatever he sees in himself stares back.
