Blairs - A Man For The People

unnamed2.jpg

Hey Blair’s! So give us some background info on you as an artist, where are you from,

and how long have you been making music?

M BLAIRS..... BLAIRS from the unknown. I’m a pretty sad individual at times but the friends that I’ve met in this lifetime make me happy. I believe that I have found my purpose and once I share it with the whole entire world, once the whole entire universe gets on board, then I’ll fade away. Probably go back to where I came from until I’m needed to go fix another dimension. Or I’ll probably enter a dream state where I dream forever.

I found my passion for music about a year and a half almost two years ago. It’s just a way to display my feelings. I don’t know how to explain them. This is my way OUT. It’s good to get those emotions out yah know. Music is the universal healing so when I do make a song it makes me feel a little better. I also feel like I’m able to give a positive message out to the younger audience of mine and find a damn good connection to the people who has dealt with the same thing I’m going through. So yeah I guess that’s enough about me.

unnamed7.jpg

How has your area and the surrounding cultures played an influence on you, and your music

I really wouldn’t say influence, I didn’t grow up in a good neighborhood or area. Basically grew up with just one parent, my mom. Sleeping in cars and shit. Seeing her work her butt off. Witnessing all that just made me go harder in whatever I did and even now it drives me to pass limitations, so I guess it did influence me a lil bit. Even the situations I’m in at this very moment, it’s not the best and it hurts, BUT it makes me go harder. I WANT better, and with this mindset anyone can achieve success. As far as the culture I AM THE CULTURE!!!!!

“Perfumes Gardens“ is insane! Give us some background on it, how did it come about,what was your goal with it, and how was it working on it?

PERFUME GARDENS!!!!!! Man that was a crazy project. DAMN NEAR all the songs were freestyles. Maybe like 2 of em was written (alien and new skin). And by the way I WRITE MY OWN MUSIC!!!!....... Alright so me and my bro Saiko Simm went to Miami, Florida with two other friends. This was during the time Rolling Loud was out there so you know it was LIT, but I didn’t go for that.

I was shooting a music vid. Shoutout to STEVEN, best video man I know out there!!! My other two friends went to rolling loud, they had tickets and shit. Me and Sim didn’t. So we really just stayed at the crib the whole day, ain’t really too much to do when damn near the whole city at rolling loud, and by the way the crib was ASS lol. Anyways, probably the day right before we left, I had some beats in the stash. We listened to em and we RIPPED SHIT!!!!!

We was ROCKING OUT in that small ass room. I recorded EVERYTHING, so when we got back to the city we went to the studio and laid the tracks down. And WALA, PERFUME GARDENS was birthed. Really we wanted to just show the fans how versatile we are. It’s a mixture of the RAW AND GOOD MUSIC with a taste of our style !!!! Shoutout to James for making the project come to life. I appreciate all the support we got too!!!! I LOVE YOU GUYS TO DEATH I swear.

”Mistake” is actually my favorite song you’ve made will there be any visuals to

accompany it?

Oh yeah almost forgot. MISTAKE was made in Atlanta!! BASICALLY THE SAME WAY!!! Turned on a beat and WENT DUMMY!! As far as visuals, we really wasn’t planning on it BUT IF YOU GUYS REALLY WANT ONE, SAY LESS !!!!!

Name 5 people who have had the most profound influence in you on you, and your

creative style.

  1. Michael Jackson

  2. Chris Brown

  3. XXXtentacion

  4. SANDBOX ENT.

All of these guys are multi talented, great artist, and great individuals  And one more person. I don’t want to say her name but you know who you are. Thanks so much for everything. I love you a whole bunch. Hopefully we get a chance to live our dream lives in another lifetime if this isn’t my last lifetime.

unnamed10.jpg

Which 5 artists do you want to work with, why do you want to work with them?

How has the music industry treated you so far, and what advice would you have for new

artists.

Pretty good I guess. You just have to BE YOU, BELIEVE, and BE TRUE TO YOURSELF!!! Don’t let hate overcome you because you WILL have haters. Especially the people who don’t understand. PEOPLE FEAR WHAT THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND. Just remember that and go HARD 1,000,000,000%. They won’t deny you forever. And don’t let anything contradict who you are as a person. You’re a good person no matter what. If you made some mistakes in the past YOU CAN CHANGE. Some people won’t understand that. I can go on and on but in the end JUST HAVE FUN. Okay I’m done now.

unnamed6.jpg

What can we expect from you in 2019, and what are your next moves for 2020?

Carter - EYE TO EYE ft. Hiddenhills - Single Premier

EYE TO EYE.jpg

Carter is back again with the heat with his newest track, and holds a surprise in the form of guest feature, Hiddenhills! “EYE TO EYE” is the first collaboration between both artists, and boasts a strong Latin vibe, with seemingly small hints of Middle Eastern elements.

Hiddenhills and Carter flow in and out of effortless verses, overtop heavy, yet smooth, 808s and a beautiful and infectious melody. The song is an instant vibe and grabs and keeps your attention.

By the end, you’re mouse will already be hovering over the repeat button, guaranteed.

Carter had this to say about the description of the track:

“The track was written in the form of an eye to eye conversation with a female. It's straight forward, honest, and i think it's got a really bright sound combined with the instrumental.

The writing process for this song from both myself and hills were more or less freestyles. Hills hit me up to do some work, and i sent him this one with an open verse and got the song done really quickly, so it was definitely a pleasure to work with him, and there will be more coming from us in the future for sure.”

“EYE TO EYE” is live now, click the audio above and visit the official link on Soundcloud. While you’re there be sure to peep some of his previous work which can be found above. DKTM Series Episode 2: Morgan Marsh

Welcome to the DKTM Series Episode 2 The DKTM Collective, short for “DON’T. KILL. THE. MOVEMENT.”, is a collective of artists, producers, and overall creatives that have come together in order to pursue their artistic endeavors. They have bolstered an impressive fanbase within the DMV area and are reaching for even further heights with every project they release.

Every episode, we will focus on two of the collective’s artists, until we reach the end of the roster.

Below, we get into our second artist, Morgan Marsh.

Enjoy 😈

~~~~
DE659455-4415-4E76-B720-6147CEDB38EE.jpg
Morgan Marsh is a member of DKTM, acting as one of the collective’s main vocalists and creative directors.
Morgan is a free-spirited, empathetic, and conscious vocalist, with two major singles under her belt and major contribution to fellow members’ Mighty Mouse and BLK LEXX’s joint project, MIGHTYLEXX.
She features on the song Chop! and adds a softer, evergreen hook to the abrasive and bellicose delivery of the other listed artists, whilst showing she is more than capable of keeping up with her fellow vocalists.
Morgan has shown her ability to be true to herself and the creativity that flows through her, without letting it compromise her compatibility with the group.
In fact, she has only strengthened the band’s innovative dynamic, and it indeed shows, in waves.
Give us a general description of you as an artist. What cultures and experiences cultivate the persona or identity of yours?
First thing that comes to mind when I hear that question is that I’m half Guyanese.
My mother came to this country when she was 11.
Just having that Caribbean influence, definitely into reggae, afrobeats, dancehall, soca, they all contributed to who I’ve become as an artist.
So your roots cultivate who you are, it really drives you.
Yeah, for sure. That, as well as being from Montgomery Country.
Oh wow, Moco? That’s a pretty underrepresented part of the DMV area.
Gaithersburg, Moco,  the whole area is very diverse. Of course, now it's becoming more gentrified.
But I grew up around people from all different backgrounds. I have friends who are asian, hispanic, it doesn’t matter.
That’s usually how it is in the DMV.
Exactly, and that’s why I love being from here, and not enough people know how special this place is, the DMV as a whole. So I’m just ready to put this city on the map.
I represent my whole state, but Montgomery County specifically. There’s not enough of us.
I can’t really name any notable Moco artists. Well, besides Logic, he’s from Gaithersburg.
Promotional Poster for “Polo”
Promotional Poster for “Polo”
How would you describe your music to somebody?
Very eclectic. Very different. I don’t hold myself to a certain genre of music. You’ll hear hip-hop, you’ll hear R&B. I listen to indie-alternative music, even country.
So you’re more of an evolving vibe, kinda?
Yeah, pretty much.
Whatever sounds good at the time, you know? I might go through certain phases where I’m solely listening to rock. or if it's just reggae.
Do you ever think you’ll be able to combine those sounds one day?
Hell yeah, that’s the goal. Different colors, different moods.
Do you think there’s a single word that you would use to describe yourself and your sound?
Mosaic. Different colors, different moods, different emotions, and just blending everything into one.
Who do you listen to on a regular basis?
Ooh, I love Frank Ocean. I have to he’s one of my biggest influences. Him and Andre 3000 is one of my favorite artists too, I can listen to Outkast all day. Seeing like Outkast and Missy Elliot, seeing people like them just be themselves and authentic, it’s amazing and inspiring.
There’s this one artist name Mereba. She’s an artist from Arkansas. I know what y’all are thinking, but like she makes alternative R&B music and rappers over it. Check out her project y’all.
I’m putting y’all on right now. Go in without any expectations and, yeah.
Walk us through the steps the group takes to create a track. What is your creative process? Do you guys happen to just walk into a studio and be assigned to one role or is there like a more delicate process involved.
It’s pretty random, I don’t have a strategy per say. I may just hear a beat, maybe something that Baat Choy or Mouse has made and I’ll just marinate on it.
Sometimes it’s hard for me to come up with lyrics on the spot.
D810172F-EEAF-4431-9C64-2B0ABA6EF653.jpg
So, you let it cook?
I’ll let it cook. I’ll take it home with me, I’ll think on it at work, think on it all day.
The lyrics can come first or the melody may come first, then I can get a certain rhythm going.
So that’s kind of like your sound then. You just kind of like to throw things at a wall and see what sticks.
Yeah, there’s so much freedom.
Well can you tell us anything about any future projects?
I’m actually working on a solo project, hopefully I’ll be able to drop it around spring time next year? I just started it, I only have like two songs pretty much done.
One of them is called Insomnia
What’s the story behind Insomnia?
It’s a double entendre. So I live in an apartment. It’s a very small apartment with like really thin walls, and my neighbors are very fucking loud haha. So I can barely get any sleep at night.
So it’s a play on that, but also, just problems and struggles in life, not getting a break. I feel like I’m not really able to sleep at all/ I’m always on the go, working, working, working.
She proceeded to play us a snippet.
It was amazing.
So yeah, next spring, I wanna have seven songs. The project’s going to be called Gazed. Like, when you’re intently like looking at something and you’re like in awe and admiration of it.
That’s how I feel about DKTM and that’s how I feel about my future as an artist.
"DON'T GET FUCKED UP" *AVAILABLE ON ALL STREAMING PLATFORMS* written/performed by @morgan-marsh produced and mixed by @tshazhar keys/guitar by @baatchoy // mastered by @androidno23 artwork by @unkwn-3
IDK Questions Everything On "Is He Real?"
Is He Real? Album Artwork
Is He Real? Album Artwork
IDK, born Jason Mills, is an American rapper, born in London and raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The name IDK stands for Ignorantly Delivering Knowledge, and the upcoming artist has proved his name true time and time again.
Gaining traction on his 2015 mixtape, Subtrap, where he plays and narrates both sides of the drug game, whilst acting as several different characters that he created (Chris, Jon Jon, Matt, Ed, and King Trappy III), IDK soon released another mixtape, titled The Empty Bank, which premiered on Forbes. The tape focused on the concept of money and how it is so tightly interwoven in modern society today, specifically the decisions people make because of and for it.
In 2017, Mills released his third project, IWASVERYBAD, which gained him even more acclaim and a solid following. Though Mills has said that the project was not his debut, many of his fans see it as so.
Shortly after his third tape, Mills announced the coming of his actual debut album, Is He Real? which was supposed to be released the very next year of 2018. Instead the artist dropped IDK & Friends to tide hungry fans over till the album’s final release. On September 4th, 2019 after the drop of two singles, Is He Real? arrived.
Cloud Blu is the opening track on the album, and is something of the prologue into the subject matter IDK is tackling. It depicts a child, named Max, being asked “What happens when you die?”. The child proceeds to take the listener on a spiritual take through what seems to be what happens on the path to heaven. However at the end of the track, Max claims it was all a dream and that, quote “God isn’t fucking real”, intriguing the listener to follow into the album’s second track.
42 Hundred Choices could be a reference to the approximately 4200 religions and spiritual traditions that are present in the world today. These ways of seeing the world are crucial in the decision making process humans have formulated over the years. This track is one of the shorter ones but makes just as big of a impact as some of the full-length tracks on the album, hitting hard with floor vibrating 808s and a catchy hook at the end, which leads into the first interlude of the album.
The “E” in Blue is seemingly told from the perspective of someone being baptized. DMX acts as a bishop, saying a word prayer that flows in and out of clarity, due to the person being submerged over and over in the water below, muffling the words. DMX is known to be a religious person, so his placement on the track fits quite well.
The interlude bleeds nicely into the next track Alone, which is a comeback anthem calling out all of IDK’s haters and shouting out all of his supporters. The beat rides smoothly and IDK delivers with subtle yet hard hitting lyricism, and yet another catchy hook, which puts this song as one of our favorites on the track list.
The song 24 was actually one of IDK’s promotional singles for “Is He Real?”, being the second single to be released. Hard-hitting piano keys and “The Empty Bank”-esque lyricism bring IDK back to his mixtape days, with the production quality of today. The track follows the religious themes of the album by referencing Matthew 6:24, the verse that the track is named after, in which it states: “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
Lilly is a story of the heights of fame, money, and women, and the falls that come with them. With a spooky melody overlying some consistent 808s, IDK details the sins and mistakes people commit in the name of fortune and lavish lifestyles. In the background a sample adlibing the word “Devil” is sprinkled in throughout the song, as if IDK himself is flirting with the Devil.
ISHEREAL Album + Tour Announcement
ISHEREAL Album + Tour Announcement
IDK’s song Porno is probably our favorite track on the entire album and marks the first collaboration between IDK, JID, and rap legend, Pusha-T. The track entails boasts of relationships with beautiful women, with Pusha coming in from the females perspective and their lust for men with felonies and charges, whilst JID rides the beat out with a serenading verse that sets the tone for a sexual rendezvous with a significant other. Pornstar Lavish Styles makes a surprising guest appearance on the hook, making the already hype song almost infectious.
I Do Me . . . You Do You is a continuation of the album’s main theme, religion. Tyler, the Creator makes a guest appearance on the interlude, after a beautiful intro, Tyler is questioned by IDK if he believes there may be a higher power. Tyler responds by saying of course there must be because someone had to have created all of this. But he believes that God as a concept and is within everyone. It’s not just some almighty being or the end all be all of humanity, but its what you believe in, what brings you happiness.
The track ends with a pivotal statement by IDK: “Tellin' us today, that a man built Noah’s Ark Is just as crazy as us tellin' a caveman We built robot bitches we can fuck”
One of the softer tracks on the album, December is considered the closest thing on Is He Real? to a love song. IDK goes on to details the things he loves about his partner and what he would do for them. Burna Boy makes a surprise feature on the track and adds his own tales of a girl he admires and wants to see prosper. The track has a soft afrobeat to it and the melody overlays beautifully bringing the song to a pristine finish.
European Skies is a religiously and politically charged track that heavily delves into the inconsistencies of Christianity and the Bible, as well as the misconceptions brought forth by these misinterpretations. IDK even wonders if Hell would be a better place due the sinful nature of the human race. He also muses on how much room Heaven must have due to there being only pure things born there, such as babies. The song is heavy yet soft and doesn't force or induce any bias, simply showing IDK’s various thought processes on religion.
IDK’s No Cable starts off with a prayer/confirmation of faith from GLC. He song touches on the desensitization and short attention spans of modern society today in the wake of terrorism, racism, television, social media, radical religion, and the loss of oneself and faith in the media for the way portray many serious issues. The song bleeds into the next track with a female voice saying “I like that”.
Digital is the first promotional single to be released for Is He Real? The track seems to be a continuation of No Cable above, speaking more so on gun violence and the how lucky IDK was to be able to look back on it all from the position he has placed himself in right now in the music industry. The track has an extremely catchy hook and was produced by Karl Banx, who also produced a majority of the tracklist for the artist’s IWASVERYBAD tape.
Michael What TF is somewhat of a prelude for the next track, detailing the issues Mills has with his stepfather and how these issues had affected his mother’s health, such as him keeping the insurance money for himself and threatening to kick Mills’ grandparents out of the family home after bringing in a new girl in the his mother’s absence. The song is funky, dark, and groovy, holding the heaviness of the subject matter while allowing the listener to bop their head and vibe.
The final track, Julia… is undoubtedly the heaviest song on the track. The artist finally goes into detail about the actual events of his mother’s death, and everything that happened prior to it. At the end of the song, after lyrically guiding us through his denial of the truth, IDK says on the final line: “When she died is when I heard my stepfather gave her AIDS”
Mills’ states in a public explanation on Instagram, that he released Julia… as not just a way to help himself heal, but also to do the same for the world. IDK says he had to clear the booth of everyone except for his engineer when he recorded.
In all, though it sometimes escapes the realm it tries to remain in, in order to delve into other topics, the central point of IDK’s album still hits and hits hard. Question everything, good and bad, and always keep an open mind, love in your heart, and your head on a swivel. The artist’s debut album is one for the books, and has set the stage for the Maryland-native to be one of the greatest to ever do it.
The Nasa 8 - Going Harder Than Ever
image1.jpeg
THENASA8 is a group of artist stationed in the DMV. With such a diverse group of members and an extensive discography the Nasa8 has been working hard on establishing their selves a group of artists to pay attention to. With 40+ tapes already out and more coming down the pipeline the Nasa8 is a group of artists who shows that not only do they have an amazing work ethic that is unmatched, they have their talent to back them up as well.
What is the group and what does it stand for? Do you guys have a mission statement that you like to promote?
Well, first and foremost, we are Lawyers. I mean, look at our hands! But we are much better known for our rap music. Thenasa8 stands for Nostalgic Anime Social Awareness 8 (sike nah lol). It really means whatever you want it to mean. its more of a vibe at this point. Ride the wave.
image2.jpeg
Our mission statement follows:
"In this world, is the destiny of mankind controlled by some transcendental entity or law...? Is it like the hand of God hovering above? At least it is true that man has no control, even over his own will.”
Why did the group come together?
Cuz the people who did the second season of one punch man was trippin mane.
How many people are in the group, and what are their individual names and talents?
So before we name our people, everyone in the group makes beats and raps. All in house BOOM.
So we have:
Bito
JeeroSama
Tislam the Great
Opo Ra
SurQ
Ale from Summerclub
TEK.LUN
TrelMix
BigSto
There's also other muhfuckas that do other shit but these the big 8 on the newest album.
What type of music do you guys promote? Any specific style?
Slam Gore Punch groove is one of the genres we push MAINLY. But we dabble in electronic folk acid jazz, and I believe TEK.LUN has experimented with the unique sound of classical death funk-hop. But we just put out a straight up Hip-Hop album.
image14.jpeg
Is there an area that you all represent? Why is that area important to you?
We from Laurel, Maryland we also got cats in Baltmore across the seas in the UK. We kinda all over . WORLDWIDE YA DIG
GOIN DOWN LIKE A SLIDE YA DiG.
What does the group draw inspiration from in the music industry?
NOT A GATDAMN THING. We have never looked to draw inspiration from music industry. We realize that shit is like nahm sayin, the shit is gonna do what its gonna do, so we aren't looking to jump through a circle shape because we are circle shaped We got a gatdamn demon apostle butterfly creature thing on our album cover, We did that because we wanted it, not because we saw other peoples covers and said "thats popular thats what we should do". Plus anime rules, we do this to have fun and we do it for cats like us. The anime heads, the people with a million DBZ figurines perched at there computer desk. For the peoples that was reading shonen jump in tap class and they was trynna tell you that you cant read books with pictures in them. For them niggaz that was sittin criss cross apple sauce in the manga aisle in books a million. This is for the cats that put the towel down in the living room every Friday night to eat dinner and watch Toonami. This is for y'all.
Does the group have a preferred group of artists that they listen to or is it really diverse ?
WE LISTEN TO DOOM AND SEAN P! (RIP!) Errbody listens to different shit. We have a group of producers and musicians, collectors of vinyls, and youtube bandits. We could honestly go on but that could be a topic for a completely different interview. We have backgrounds in Metal, Jazz, Dnb, Electronic, so it’s honestly extensive as fuh. On top of that we from Laurel, 30 minutes from DC and Baltimore so we didn't just get their slang, we got the Gogo, the club music allat shit. But at the time we didn't really appreciate it we was on our boom bap bullshit... lls.
What platform can people reach the groups content on the most conveniently?
Whichever ones you can pay for shit on. Big fax. Allum.
What albums and songs do you already have out that people should listen to?
Look nigga, we got 40+ tapes on our Bandcamp. Rap tapes, beat tapes you name it. Our newest project, Conviction Arc, just dropped on the 8th. We was rockin with the homies on that jawnt, shot out DK the Punisher for the slappaz, that boy a fool for them jawnts. We had the heavenly scholar J-Live watching our backs on the track. Everyone should go buy that jawnt. Go peep the video for dat jawnt too dug. Also got a beat tape collection, NASA8+ nahmsayin, bout to put out Vol 12 next month. We pretty much get 2 beats from everyone and make a noxious concoction of a beat tape.
Is there any one song that the group has made that stands out from the rest? Any songs that people should listen to that will get people hooked?
Big Fax, "Two Completely Languages" from the new album mostly because its a diss track to magic. Fuck magic. like foreal though who the fuck is wearing robes n shit yellin thunderbolt n shit. Abracdabra ass niggaz. Aye but fr, we fucks with magic, thats the ancient science faceass.
But yea that track is fucking vicious. It's actually crazy cuz Opo Ra's verse wasn't even on the original recording, then he came home from his short stint as a vigilante justice super hero in France and came thru laid it down one take even though he didn't do it in one take.   All of em nigga!!!! (but nah the song "Kyoshi dono KYOSHI DONO!!!" will probably smack your face off repeatedly.)
Do you have an outstanding moment since you got into the music industry that makes you realize how important it is to make music like this? If so what would that be?
Nah, this music industry shit fu frfr. We would much rather be known as them dope mafuckas that paint murals, you know shit like a mural of Kamala Harris squaring up with Mashiba from Hajime no Ippo, but he's like a girl, and the referee is Colnel Sanders and the rings ropes are just big ass ropes made out of chicken wings n shit. But on a serious note, finding out that we had fans in a completely different country was cool.
image9.jpeg
How has your experience in the industry has been thus far?
 Aye look, we've been jerked around (pause) flerped around derped around and allat shit. THIS SHIT FU.
"And still I rise."
-Maya Angelou(pause lls)
We doin our thang and we gone keep doing it till the chevy is dry.
image1.jpeg
Can you tell us anything about future projects? Anything that people can look forward to coming from you?
Bito is doing a solo album called "Shonenjump19". Opo Ra is coming out with "Saddest form of Art: The Life of Ike Okoro", which will be coming out in the fall. Jeerosama is working on a solo tape as well, dates and title still to be announced. Shonenjump19 is pretty much done we are just waiting on him for a release date which should be sometime soon. Jeerosama will be releasing his first solo tape which will be done by fall, ready to release in the winter. Don't nobody know what Opo. Ra doin he be doin vigilante justice shit in France.
Tell us a bit about your newest project and what we can expect from it.
You can expect a plethora of sounds and vibrations that all users will enjoy. Even if your of the freebase community because technically, our music is not to be listened to, but it is to be freebased.
Do you have any last thoughts before the end of the interview? Any message you really want to get out to the people and your fans?
Thank you to the fans, coco bread slap but only if its like nahm sayin like moist, pop tarts over toaster strudels thats how we rockin.
"Hate it or love it the underdog's on top, and im gone shine homie until my heart stop"
*Jashoota comes in to finish it*
"Go head envy me, comes im raps mvp and i ain't nowhere so you can get to know me."
Congratulations
Xavier Clark - Sunset on Sunday - EP
IMG_6129.JPG
Hey Xavier Clark thanks for coming on and interviewing with Nefarious Supply, my first question to you is who is Xavier Clark, give us an introduction to you and your craft?
Thanks for having me i was raised in Indianapolis, IN originally from rock island, IL my music is all based off vibes i get from the beats so you never know what it will sound like i like my music to be unpredictable.
Where are you from and how has this location influenced you, and your style of music?
I grew up in Indianapolis,IN i was fortunate enough to find people on the same wave length as me being from Indy you gotta go hard or you won’t get noticed out here late night drives through the city influence my music.
You have a pretty extensive discography for an underground artist all of which is heat  but two bodies of work really stands out to me is, “Secluded”, and “Secluded 2” Give us some background on each of them?
I named it Secluded because I’m really an introvert type of person you never really know my location i stay within my camp when it comes to my personal life and music the first project is more of me finding my sound being locked in just me and my studio. The second one is really showing the world i found myself and my sound trying to prove I’m here to stay going out to LA has always been an inspiration I’m sure you can hear it.
You have worked with numerous musicians including; Carti Bankx, Krews, Will C.Kami Osha, Mula Kkhan, 1990bishop, Tyrus, Scotty Apex, Relax and Baby Ebony, how did you meet all of them, and how did their creative process compliment yours to create music that both of you were happy with?
Everyone you named is on the same wave length as me when it comes to the sound sonically we all compliment each other. Scotty Apex that’s the homie we from the same city same goes for mula kkhan and baby ebony. If it wasn’t for Will C. Idk if I’d have the sound i have today he’s the mastermind behind it. Kami and Tyrus both out in Cali Tyrus really been fuckin with me since day 1 kami put that sauce on the prescription hook and artwork big ups to Krews too everytime we link on a song its A1. I’m very strategic i knew our sound would click.
IMG_0858.JPG
You put out your newest tape this “Sunset on Sunday” on September 9. 2019. The tape  absolutely goes crazy! Give us some info on the EP, what was the goal of it and what theme were you going for with it?
Man me Scotty Apex and Mathaius Young would meet up every other Sunday to make these songs it just made sense to name it sunset On Sunday we all got that Cali vibe which influenced the artwork me and Scotty Apex like Kobe and Shaq you can’t go wrong with that combination.
What got you and Scotty Apex together to make Sunset on Sunday, and what is your  favorite thing about working with him, and can we expect another tape from the two of you again in the future?
We have been making music for a couple years our sounds just grew to compliment each other the chemistry on the track just fits the vibes we always wanted to collab on a project it just randomly came together this year perfect timing though. I’m sure in the near future i could see another one.
I see you’re working on starting a clothing line called Overhype, give us some more info  about it, and when can we expect to see the first collection come out?
2020 ideal release i was high af one day driving and the name just hit lol i always wanted to jump into fashion i grew up always fresh so i got a taste for dope fabrics.
As 2019 draws to an end were there any goals that you're happy you accomplished, and what are some of your biggest goals going into 2020?
I’m glad i linked with Edwards my engineer elevated the sound of my music and direction he mixes all my music I’m thankful i have a good engineer it’s hard to find those. My goal 2020 is to run it up on the business side I’m tryna get our to the masses.
What’s some advice you would give to new artists just starting out?
Stay consistent fuck  whoever telling you to stop just believe in yourself and stay true.
Any last words?
Mynigga X signing off I’m about to go roll up big ups to Nefarious Supply!
DKTM Series: Episode 1: Baat Choy
6BA2DCEC-F4BD-4F7B-A4B6-9E37D3C52269.JPG
Welcome to the DKTM Series. The DKTM Collective, short for “DON’T. KILL. THE. MOVEMENT.”, is a collective of artists, producers, and overall creatives that have come together in order to pursue their artistic endeavors. They have bolstered an impressive fanbase within the DMV area and are reaching for even further heights with every project they release.
Every episode, we will focus on one of the collective’s artists, until we reach the end of the roster.
Below, we get into our first member, Baat Choy.
Enjoy 😈
We’re discussing all things producing with Baat Choy.
The producer has worked on multiple projects for the collective, including “Black Passionfruit” by BLK LEXX and Lucy Mourn, POPE.LOUD’s “SIDES”, almost every track of BLK LEXX and Mighty Mouse’s MIGHTYLEXX tape, Morgan Marsh’s “Polo”, as well as another LEXX track, “BOTHERED!
He’s also produced his own solo projects on the side, such as love tapes, On These Grounds We Walk, [ lo-fi hip hop chill wave beats to study to ], and even his old independent release, HIRAETH - EP1.
Sitting with him and talking was such an eye opening experience for me considering I know little to nothing about the producing process.
His outlook on his skill and art as a whole is the attitude a lot of artists in the industry could stand to copy.
His pure love for music and desire to create makes even the most daft producer think about taking their craft more seriously.
So please enjoy, Baat Choy.
Do you feel like fashion has an influence on music and vice versa?
Yes, but only because in the much larger picture because art in general has a huge impact on the culture and the timezone. Whether it be fashion music movies cartoon you can really get a sense of how that decade, or even century was.
Going back as far as the renaissance looking at that art you can get a sense of what fashion was at that time.
8A2D93AB-75D6-46E8-A9F3-68769B3198EA.JPG
What is your favorite part of production?
I love creating a sound that synthesized sound, Every acoustic sound has an equivalent synthesized sound. And more. And it’s the “And More” that interests me. It’s mind numbing to think about it.
I associate a lot of synthesis sounds right now as “when I hear the sound it sounds like this or that. This is something I’ve heard in real life.
“How can I extend this further.”
My favorite thing about producing with other people is honestly getting to know them.
I feel like I get to know the person at a much more intimate level when I work with them with music.
I love working with people who are trying to express themselves with music. And those moments, and they will happen, you feel like you make a connection in a deeper way.
61FAE806-E1D1-48B7-82B9-D2194939FC05.JPG
Do you have any auditory stimuli?
Negative: When I was a kid and I saw a balloon, I would be like “I don’t like that”.
I was an anxious ass kid. So that sound when you’d grab a balloon and rub it. I hate it.
Positive: High heels on pavement. Hooves on a street. It makes my eyes roll in the back of my head.
It’s so subtle but powerful in a way.
What are some projects we should be looking out for in the future?
Right now I’m working on a couple things. Long term project. Wanna create a project as me as a producer and lead vocals from the talented friends I’ve made in this area. I have twelve songs I’m working on. I’m a patient person I can wait.
I’m working on this new EP with DIO.
So your group name is DKTM (Don’t Kill The Movement); What is the movement to you? What is it you’re hoping to preserve?
To me; the rest of the guys come from a punk stand point.
I can’t consider myself punk. The movement is definitely pursuing love and art. The self driven nature that is art and something about going back to the industry not being needed by artists.
Us throwing over that idea of we need a greater power to succeed. We can succeed with our own hands. As long as you’re doing it for and with yourself with love and happiness.
As corny as that sounds.
Nefarious Underground 3
Black Passionfruit cover art
Black Passionfruit cover art
This week we at Nefarious Supply are gifting you all with another list of vastly talented and woefully underrated artists. From passion-fruit to pre-game, artists such as the DKTM Collectve, mikey, Ashton, TWNTYFOUR, DWN2EARTH, G’avin, Marvin Dolo, Josh Dillon, and LNLYBOY spread their brilliance on track after track and the artistry shows.
Lucy Mourn and BLKLEXX from Maryland’s own DKTM Collective come together on the politically charged track “Black Passionfruit”, speaking on topics of their pride in black culture and how far the African American community has come in this day and age.
mikey’s track “my ways” is a reminiscent track in which the artist recollects the times when he used to be overlooked and under-booked by those who didn’t believe in his vision. However, now that he’s at the point where he is now, he still hasn’t changed what makes him him, and won’t ever switch up for anyone or anything.
Ashton and FRVRFRIDAY come together on the track “After Sunset”, with beautifully strung together 808s overtop a consistent hi-hat addition. Ashton raps about a girl that seems to always be on his mind. He expresses to her that, after sunset, he’ll try to not only figure out how deep this connection with her is, but also how to navigate through this precarious industry. FRVRFRIDAY appeals for patience and understanding, also questioning the girl in question’s trust in those around her.
TWNTYFOUR’s “Like she used to” tells a tale of a girl who seems to have lost the ability to love due to heartbreak, excessive drug use, and even instances of insomnia. As it always with with TWNTYFOUR, the production quality is outstanding and the storytelling is just as immaculate. This track is one of three on this list.
His next track, “Caribbean Devil”, is a more upbeat and Antillean anthem. The track is boastful and charismatic, whilst retaining the TWNTYFOUR standard that has persisted throughout the artist’s discography.
DWN2EARTH makes a solid appearance with his track “MUTOMBO”. The artist croons over a smooth, kicked back instrumental. DWN2EARTH croons over topics of wealth, busy schedules, and fake relationships with those who didn’t believe in his passion. The instrumental bleeds into a beat switch that adds a very pleasing finish to the superb chorale.
ALONE cover art
Gavin’s “Ashanti” samples SWV’s classic “You’re Always on My Mind”. He attributes the woman in question to Ashanti. With how she stays on his mind and how he will always be there when she needs him, Gavin swoons over her and dreams of treating her to the finest things life and give, and the love that only he can provide.
pre game” by Marvin Dolo is a deep and confident melody, speaking on his attraction to a girl who came to the pre game of party. The track goes through the motions of him thinking of things he can do and experience with her. Dolo states he’ll take his time with it, making sure she knows who she’s dealing with and what can happen if the two of them take things to the next level.
TWNTYFOUR’s final track “Maria” takes on a latin vibe overtop a heavy hitting bassline. The song sounds faintly reminiscent of Travis Scott’s “Maria, I’m Drunk”, whilst adding the artist’s unique takes on love and heartbreak. The chorus becomes immediately infectious after the second time hearing it and TWNTYFOUR uses autotune masterfully to convey his message.
Solecalibur” is a verbal play on the popular game, Soulcalibur, and Josh Dillon shines with beautiful vocal runs and smooth hitting lyrics overtop a groovy laidback instrumental. The artist gets vulnerable with his own insecurities, while also playing to his strengths when it comes to the girl who plagues him day in and day out. He expresses his confusion with his own feelings but comes to terms with the fact that even though he doesn’t want to, he needs her.
The final track on this list comes from our very own LNLYBOY. “ALONE” is a self-reflective track contemplating on feelings of loneliness and the grind of coming up in the music industry, as well as LNLY’s changed behavior after reaching the heights of recognition he’s achieved. It is a short track but heavy with the subject matter at hand, wrapping a beautiful bow on our underground episode.
Big shout out to all of our rising artists for their outstanding music. If you want to stay up to date with new music coming from any of them, you can find all of their social media and discography in the links as well as listen to the new underground playlist above!
LO$T Generation: The Best Boy Band Ever
IMG_2994.jpg
Fresh of the release of their latest album The Lo$t Tapes 2, and a magnificent win as the best Hip-Hop/R&B group from the Carolina Music Awards. Boyband The Lo$T Generation has been working hard since their high school days. We recently reached out to them to learn more about the band, their new album, as well as what their plans are for the future. Check out our interview with them below.
What’s up guys! Okay so there’s a couple of you in this group so I want each of you to tell us a little about yourselves and what you do. How’d you guys meet?
We started in 2014 during high school... It was just Brody, Jaheal, and I (NOAHH) at first. We had met in theatre class , Brody was already a solo artist at the time , and Jaheal & I had always asked him about making a song till we finally got him to break & let us do it. We went to his crib , recorded a remix over 1Train by A$AP Rocky. After a couple releases, we decided we were gonna need a name if we wanted to drop consistently & take it seriously... and after a couple minutes of thinking on it, we finally came up with “The Lo$t Generation.”
IMG_0908.jpeg
I met the KOKE and JuGGa John through their brother JUSTOMOBBIN about a year later. I had always known about KOKE because we were talking to the same girl but i had never formally met him. They’d always freestyle & always had people fucking with them so I knew if they took music seriously, It’d be a huge opportunity for them. They came to the studio (a home setup in my room at the time), we made our first song, and it did well just off of the strength of their popularity. It wasn’t until we made a song called ‘WET WET’ that people started REALLY looking at them as guys who could really make it, but that’s just small town shit, they knew they had it. We all did. Not too long after that, we met EMILIO ZAPATA, and immediately wanted him on board.
He had his own thing going so at first he declined, but we eventually just grew as a family and the music was the last link. We were blessed enough to meet our engineer Rob, who’s helped influence our sound & help us build something never heard before. This machine has been going hard since 2014 & doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon!
How would you describe your sound together?
We all have different inspirations and musical backgrounds, we try to take everything we know, combine in and just have fun with it. For example, Jaheal grew up listening to Jay-Z & Lil Wayne, so he takes a lot more time into metaphors and bars. Where KOKE, juGGa John, and EMILIO ZAPATA are more influenced by the later artists like Lil Uzi Vert, Playboi Carti, JuiceWRLD, and Young Thug. Brody J is heavily influenced by Mac Miller, Pink Floyd, Linkin Park and pretty much Rock Music.
What’s the inspiration behind The Lo$t Tape 2?
The development and progression in our personal lives and within our music.  We are often influenced by each other and things we go through individually and as a group. We Pride ourselves in the fact that we don’t sound like anybody but ourselves. And we take all that and just put it into our music. Every song on THE LO$T TAPE 2’ tells a story, and are all influences from just waking everyday speaking on how we feel.
What’s next for you guys? What are you working on?
Being that we just put out an album, we’re shifting our focus into just about everything else that comes with this. None the less, always creating, always going harder than last time for our supporters and for those who don’t even know we exist yet. Expect more content soon from your FAVORITE BOYBAND!
Any last words?
If you or anyone you know has a dream…..CHASE IT AND DON’T GIVE UP!!! OVERCOME EVERY Obstacle set in your way!! No matter how impossible something seems, or how hard, YOU can do it. Take that risk and have that mindset that you have nothing to lose. Whatever is important enough to YOU, do it no matter how out of this world it seems.
WE built all this from all of you guy’s love and support, determination and drive. NONE of this would be possible without YOU and for that we thank each and every one of our supporters.
Underattedviews
NES05245-2.JPG
So, where are you based? And, why there out of all places?
Currently Raleigh, NC. I am originally from Montclair, CA and raised from Long Beach. I originally wanted to live in an area where I could communicate with other artists, but after a long time I felt like that affected my concentration in my own work and I was focusing too much on others that were not giving the same effort back. I currently live in the boonies, where no one can find me, I am more accessible to just me and being isolated. It feels good for once just concentrating on myself.
How did Underrated Views start?
That’s a funny story, I really tried hard trying to find my name that people know my work by. When I started, I was known because I DJ’d. A couple guys and I threw underground parties at random abandoned locations and it was always my duty to find lowkey spots. That’s where the name came from originally. Now it has a more in depth meaning. I do not really go by the book when it comes to shooting, I literally started with 10 rolls and a film camera in 2017. Then at that moment I always thought outside the box, I’ve never been a person to just shoot pretty people and call it a day. I have to feel the reason of shooting with someone and if it just does not click then its a dub and I call it a day. So yeah, underrated spots, angles and at that time the camera i shot because the film was not popping like that and views of all kinds.
What inspires your photos ?
When it comes to shooting individuals I always have in mind keeping the mind and the body free. I never have a specific concept, but I try to keep everything very vague. Emotions truly is something I hold dear to my work, also music I love interpreting music that I listen to and making small parts of lyrics into shoots.
What your favorite photo of yours and why?
There’s this photo I took in 2017 when I went back home to LA in crenshaw on my way on the bus, I noticed this elder lady sitting across from me she had all these bags and suitcase. It was honestly impressive, it almost looked like she kept her life with her everywhere she went, but just for a moment she was sleeping and I felt like that was probably the best sleep she’s had in a moment. She was snoring and laying on top of her stuff. The fact I captured it in film is crazier.
What are you currently working on?
Currently I’ve been very busy working with small basketball organizations, but I am trying to contact any great earth cleaning organizations or culture organization, because that’s truly what I admire the most. Trying to help the environment and as well as being able to capture our beautiful planet or learning about other individuals cultures.
What do you hope to achieve before 2020?
Being able to finish paying my parents crib to be honest, that’s the only thing on my mind and I know Ima finish by the end of the year. I’ll be happy then.
Any last words?
I would just want to tell everyone to not follow the hype. Just truly be yourself, because things don’t last and honestly it gets boring just copying others. Look up to other people outside of your own craft, that allows you to dodge creative block, but other than that, don't forget to drink water, save money while your young and enjoy the moments because they go by fast.
Carter - No Saving (feat. Sxint P) - Single Premier
[ARTWORK] Carter - No Saving Feat. SXINT P.jpg
Hey Carter! Great to have you back on the site since we last interviewed you, so let us know what's going on and what's new with you since we last spoke?
Good to be back man. Since the last time I've been filming videos, working on pulling the collective together and lining up singles to release until the year ends.
You have a new track out titled “No Saving” which features rising artist Sxint  P, tell us about the track, what inspired it, what was your goal with the single, and what made you get Sxint P on as a feature?
The track was done in the first session myself and Sxint P linked up. It started off as more or less a freestyle, and all we had to do was pen in the gaps. Myself and Sxint P were fans of each other’s music before linking up, and it turned out to be a very fluid process.
Is this track just a solo single or can we expect to hear more music from the two of you together in the future?
This definitely won’t be the last time you hear us two on the same track. We’re actually following it up with another single titled ‘Valerie’ dropping next Friday with him featuring me. That one is a crazy record as well, so definitely stay tuned for it.
Screen Shot 2019-09-12 at 4.32.57 PM.png
You had mentioned something about forming a new group called  “Kill Collective” give us some details about that? Who’s in it, why did you guys from it, and what do each of you bring to the table that helps the collective stand out from others?
Kill Collective consists of myself, Sxint P, Sin Santos & Chux. Music is our main output of content, but we also have plenty of videos dropping along with ‘Kill’ branded events coming before the year ends. It started off from us bouncing ideas to each other as homies, and sitting in on each others sessions to a couple months ago when we had the conversation of building a team. I genuinely believe we’re some of the best up and coming artists coming out of Melbourne, and teaming up will only create greater momentum for each of us. Strength in numbers right?
What can we expect from Kill Collective in the near future?
Besides a lot of good music, you can expect events, merch and video/short films. It’s all on the way.
What can we expect from you individually as we end 2019, and head into 2020?
Sxint P has singles & an EP dropping before the year ends, and at the moment, i’ve got singles lined up for a couple months, and i may potentially put out a body of work before 2020 as well. Stay tuned!
Any last words?
Enjoy ‘No Saving’. See you next week with ‘Valerie’
“No Saving” is avalible now on SoundCloud and while you’re there be sure to peep some of his previous work which can be found above. Let us know about yourself.
I am a quiet guy, don’t like a lot of expose, and I care more about the respect from every piece of work I do. I am based out of Georgia and with a team consisting of gifted and innovating creators called JungleTeam°. I brought up to music as an outlet from depression and suicidal thoughts and my music reflects all my experiences in life and emotions I usually came across in a never-ending cycle. I started out by creating Type Beats on YouTube and selling them to various artist. I didn’t feel fulfilled to this type of creation, so I began creating my own music. I hope to inspire artist that go through rough times in life to continue to work, thrive with whatever and whoever you have, and create new relationships no matter who it is.
Where are you representing and why is it so important to you?
Growing up in Indianapolis, Indiana, homed to Dallas, Texas, but based out of Georgia. I would argue that I represent Dallas, Texas because I consider that home to me and help me be the person I am today. The place introduced me to many people that genuinely care about my well being and want to see me prosper.
How would you describe your music to somebody?
I would describe my music as Dark R&B. Something that speaks to the soul and able to reflective to.
Who or what were your inspirations behind these themes and cultures? How did they influence you to become the artist you are today, along with any experiences you might have had?
My inspirations behind what I represent are PARTYNEXTDOOR, Anders, and Majid Jordan. They inspire me with how to showcase my emotions through my music, pictures, and future videos. My closer inspiration is my team, JungleTeam°. Scottie Flames, Wxlf Stealth, Vue, Lavish Jax, Ace, Blvck, Vici, Isaiah, and fleur. Each person within the team brings a different strength to learn from and can be implemented into my music or life in general. I’ve been through many flings, break-ups, and relationships that help create my music. But there was one thing different about my last relationship and that what inspired “HIDDEN” featuring HIMOVERTHERE, which I have released in August 2019. I still care for her, but we were never compatible. We were raised very differently from one another and we could not co-exist together. I still wish her the best and I know she will grow to be an independent woman.
IMG_2531.jpg
How do you incorporate these themes and cultures into your music?
Main contents that I incorporate these themes and cultures into my music is pictures and writing. Pictures are just as important as how I represent my music. One reason would be to catch the listeners attention, and another is to show what other things I am capable of. I make my own artwork and have had clients such as Joe Trufant, 7ONESTAR, Dazeoneast, EREL, and many producers. As far as my writing, I try to be real as possible. I used to write letters to my past girlfriends. I always fell deep in love so writing to them became very easy and so I learn how to write story’s through them.
What keeps your current audience listening and why should people start listening?
With everything that I do I put the topmost quality. Even though I would disappear for some time, I am always working on something for my audience to listen to or view on my Instagram and Twitter. People should start listening because of my story’s. Any one of my true listeners would be able to tell what I go through or have been through just by my music.
Who inspires you for your sound?
The main artist that inspire my sound are PARTYNEXTDOOR, Anders, Majid Jordan, and many of the underground artist within SoundCloud. I find that these artists spoke the most to me with the way that they write, produce, and create photography.
Who do you listen to on a regular basis?
What I listen to is wide range of variety. People who I listen to on a regular basis are most of the time underground artist, such as FRVRFRIDAY, Dazeoneast, Majilla, Joe Trufant, Shraban, and many more.
IMG_2567.jpg
 Do you have any collaborating artists that you’ve been working with? Is there anybody you would have as a feature or collaborate with on a future project?
Some artist that I have collaborated with are Joe Trufant, D.A. Doman, EREL, and HIMOVERTHERE. Some features that I would dream to have are FRVRFRIDAY, Dazeoneeast, Majilla, Shraban, and Anders.
What platform can people reach your content on the most conveniently? What albums and songs do you already have out that people should listen to?
People can reach my music through SoundCloud. I have a couple of official songs called “HIDDEN” featuring HIMOVERTHERE, and “INTERVENE” featuring EREL. I have an EP in the works called EX.MUSE. Until then, I am working on myself as an artist and as a person.
IMG_1618.jpg
Is there any one song that you’ve made that stands out from the rest? Any songs that people should listen to that will get people hooked?
That song would be “HIDDEN”. After all I have been through this year, I put all my emotions into this song and was truly meant for my recent ex-girlfriend to listen.
 Do you have an outstanding moment since you got into the music industry that makes you realize how important it is to make music like this? If so what would that be?
I have a long road ahead of me, and I have not experienced enough of the music industry. But like I’ve said before, I do this for an outlet, to inspired, and to create stories, which I think is essential for creating music.
How has your experience in the industry been thus far?
So far in the underground, all of the artist that I’ve gain relationships with are talented, innovative, and hardworking. Like I said before, I have a long journey ahead of myself. I am not signed or spoke to an A&R. My motto is “You get what you put out” so everything I currently have I deserve. I still need to improve my craft to exceed to the next phase of my music career.
Can you tell us anything about future projects? Anything that people can look forward to coming from you?
One future project I have currently in the works is EX.MUSE. This project will be about what I have gone through with my ex-girlfriend. Every day I hit the studio all I could write about was her when we were together at the time. From beautiful down-to-earth songs to songs where I act like I hate her. Until then, I have released a song called “HIDDEN” which is the single to the project, and is the basis of how the entire project will sound like.
DSC05807 10.jpg
Tell us a bit about your newest project and what we can expect from it.
I released my newest song “HIDDEN” featuring HIMOVERTHERE mid August. This song is a start of the phase, EX.MUSE, which is my future project. For now, my listeners can follow me through social media @lobiasr to keep in touch with my next releases and other collaborations that I have in the works.
Do you have any last thoughts before the end of the interview? Any message you really want to get out to the people and your fans?
I would like to end this interview as a thank you for reaching out and getting to know me at a personal level. Lately in my life, I have been more geared towards how I should treat myself and purse the things I really wanted in life, forget the people that don’t care about me, and check up on my team. Keep working hard because then they wouldn’t be able to do what you do.
Three65 - Summers Over EP
IMG_1408.jpg
Hey Three65 it’s been a while since we had you on the site give the audience and update on who you are, where you are from, and what you’ve been up to?
Hey guys, I go by THREE65. I’m a Hip-Hop and R&B artist from Cleveland Ohio. I’ve been pretty busy working on music and I’ve been working on other projects as well.
Last time we had interviewed you, you went by “Heartthrobsworld”, why’d you change your name and how does it help you stand out an artist?
DF1F5C59-3031-4B4F-A53B-907D2EB6EB86.JPG
I just felt like it was time for a change honestly. A lot of crazy shit happened to me in the past couple of months and it just made me realize that I wasn’t being myself. The music I was making before needed a certain image to be pushed and that image just isn’t who I am, so I decided that it was time to fully change my sound and my identity to fully be me.
I guess I just became comfortable with the idea of finally being personal in my music and it just opened a lot of doors for me sonically. I feel like all of this helps me stand out as an artist because it shows the authenticity behind my music and who I am as a person.
Let’s get into “Summers Over EP” tell us more about it, what inspired it, how long did it take to make it, and what was your overall goal when you released it?
Summers Over is just a culmination of thoughts, feelings, and emotions I felt throughout this past summer. It’s a project that tells you what’s been going in my head and how I’ve been dealing with it. The biggest inspiration behind this project were my past relationships. A lot of people deal with their situations in different ways and I guess this was just a way to deal with mine. I felt like people needed to hear this and it made me realize that someone is feeling the same way I did and they might need to hear this in order to feel better.
Maybe I could be that voice for those people but who knows, I just wanted to tell my story. It didn’t take long to make the project honestly. Most of the songs on the project were made in between the months June and July so it was a pretty quick process. I mixed and mastered everything 2 days before I had to turn in the EP so everything was done recently. My goal when releasing the project was to just fully be myself finally when it came to my music. I used to be scared to talk about real genuine things because I didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings but now that isn’t the case. My music is who I am and I needed to talk about the things that made me the person I am today.
37D91FC1-5026-4690-ACCA-8065D26C7415.JPG
Who did you work with to get the EP together and how was the process
Worlwidetak and Blondie handled all of the production on the EP while me and my homie Rich did the album cover together. i was just taking a lot of pictures of the sky for some reason and I felt like I needed to use these for something, so I sent them to him and he edited the pictures altogether and ended up making that cover. I also handled the engineering on the project and I would say the overall process was pretty organic. All the producers I work with are close friends of mine at the end of the day, so I trust them 100% when they send me whatever they make which is always fire.
“Nobody” goes crazy!! Tell us more about this song, what's the message behind it?
“Nobody” is a song about me realizing that this person who I thought mattered to me, did not really matter at all. It’s really just me going through a bunch of emotions trying to figure out how to stop myself from feeling certain ways.
What’s your favorite song on the EP and why?
I think “Go Away” might be my favorite song on the project because it’s me finally saying my goodbyes to all my past situations, it’s my way of saying farewell, but I honestly can’t pick because I love all the songs on the project and it’s pretty hard to pick which one could be my actual favorite because of how I was feeling when I made each track.
What can we expect from you for the rest of 2019, and heading into 2020?
I’m working on an album right now and I’m taking my time with it so we’ll see how long that’ll take, but that won’t stop me from dropping music for the rest of the year. I’m trying to make something more orchestrated and I want to be hands on when it comes to the production on this album. I want to show people that I can create something special at a high level but other than that, maybe some music videos will come out soon and maybe another project next year. I’m just on a grind and i’m not trying to slow down anytime soon.
Any last words?
No matter what, don’t let people dictate who you should be, just be yourself and be around people you love and that love you. Make sure to focus on what you need to do and try to better yourself in any way you can. I’mma keep doing this music shit and hopefully it takes me where I want to go. If not, I made a hell of an effort and that’s all that matters.
Big shout out to rising artists Three65 for coming on and sharing his experience with his latest EP “Summers Over” the new project is available on all streaming platforms right now. If you want to stay up to date with new music coming from Three65 you can follow him on SoundCloud and on Instagram.
Indicut: Capturing Raw Moments One Photo At A Time
54BDF88E-8A07-4B20-92E6-1BF07DD98A46.jpg
Give us some insight into who you are. What’s your name, how old are you, basic info like that?
my name is Justin Paige, twenty five years on this earth, grew up in pg county. I’m salvadoran and afro-american. spirit flowing
Where are you from and why is it important to you?
I’m from Prince Georges County but I moved around a bit. Growing up i didn’t feel a connection to where i lived due to the movement and family issues. As i experienced life i’ve grown to understand that the city molded me into who i am with the diversity, culture, and community offered
0237502-R2-017-7.jpeg
What got you into photography?
The need for a creative outlet. i grew up drawing as a hobby but never took it serious until i started liking what i created which was around junior/senior year of high school. that led me to take a photoshop class which i really enjoyed. Taking pictures just assisted with me being able to manipulate images in photoshop. i began taking experimental pics to see what i can morph them into in photoshop. If you wanna dig deeper, my eldest sister always had photo albums she was proud of that she showed me when I was little and I think altered my path into film and photography. I also think the envy of the homie Dominic, @hauz.cue on instagram, made me want to get into photography as well.
I see lots of candid and portrait style in your photo’s on Instagram, what is your favorite style to shoot ?
Candids are definitely my favorite style to shoot. I aim to capture raw moments because i am a seeker of truth (as my life path number states lol (7)). nah but truth is definitely a big influence in the direction i head. I see our obsession with appearing to have everything handled and in check. I want to battle this view by showing that every moment can have beauty in it whether it be destruction or creation, planned or spontaneous. I’m also a perfectionist (at least my eyes are) so it is also a battle within, that the natural flow of is good enough.
What is your current camera set up?
currently shooting with a canon AE-1 program with a 50mm lens
Do you shoot on film or digital? Do you have a preference when it comes to the discussion of these too?
Currently shooting film. when I first started shooting it was digital, which was fun for a good time. I began upgrading my equipment and felt that i was losing a certain feeling while shooting. All the pictures came out beautiful and i got them all instantly to computer with no effort. this thought let me to selling my newly bought DSLR and copping a film camera from Dominic. I fell in love with film ever since. There’s something about the uncertainty and feeling that comes with shooting film that speaks to my spirit. it forces to me to be experimental and to learn on the go.
IMG_2099.JPG
Who are your favourite subjects to shoot? Artists, models, random people in the street?
Hmmm probably artists. I have a understanding that there is an energy transfer when an artist inspires me with their art so I feel i have an obligation to spread that energy back into the world. so why not collab?! Another favorite would be nature which is a huge inspiration. My experimental style comes from starting at clouds and tree bark and different insects and the reflection of water and the infinite truth we live with, man its amazing.
What colour palate do you like to shoot? Brighter colours, opaque or others?
Had to google opaque real quick,, lol .. i don’t think i really have a preference .. just whatever catches my eye, they have a mind of their own.
What is your dream camera set up?
Money is no object in this scenario. actually don’t look into cameras much. I don’t really consider myself much of a photographer, just an artist who captures moments. i know i want to add a medium format to the collection tho
Where would you like to shoot in the future that would match your style?
Experimental so a skydive shoot would be tight... underwater too .. astral ..
Are there any events in the music scene that you would like to cover? If so what are they and why?
I’m out at a good amount of shows, trying to capture friends performing, displaying work, or artist that inspire me. I just need to clone myself for shows that i miss. Recycling love and light in the community is a must and that’s all the reason i need. paying bills is cool too though
To end off the Interview do you have anything to say? Anything you’d like to promote or add?
An explanation of my handle would be a nice ending. “indicut” is where the pain lies. You must go within and heal your wounds to find your truth for the better of the all. Promote love and light.
still healing tho ..
Josif Grey, Representing New Haven
6F7E1580-F5A8-42DE-B926-352E839CB2CD.JPG
Who is Josif Grey give us a brief summary about yourself, and your artistry?
I am a 21-year-old artist from New Haven, Connecticut born and raised. I’m really a normal kid I grew up playing video games and sports. I went to a private middle school and high school I was never in any trouble. I saw a future in basketball before anything, but when I transferred to public high school after my sophomore year at the private school. I didn't make the ball team and that kind of fucked me up. I started writing and making music when I was 16 / 17 and I put a lot of energy into it.
I was self-conscious about all my stuff so I didn’t tell anyone about it besides my close family which has been supportive throughout my journey. I started by putting music on SoundCloud under different names until I came up with “Josif Grey”. The name “Grey” represents me in a way because I am usually in the grey area with a lot of things, I like to stay neutral and out of the way. It is also a very marketable/professional ring to it which I like as well, but there isn't really deep meaning behind i
IMG_2569.jpg
Where are you from and how has your location played a factor in your music?
Being from New Haven there a lot of local artists, but I can't say they have influenced me in any way I’ve always made the music I liked regardless of the trend. I think being YOU is the key to being “different”.
Who and what are some of your biggest inspirations to date, and how have they influenced your creativity?
I listen to many genres of music, but starting out I listened to Pro Era, Logic, and Mick Jenkins which really inspired me to rap. After that PND and Bryson Tiller came into the spotlight and they really influenced me to tap into that Trap R&B. I’d say those are the people who gave me that core inspiration and since then I’ve been growing and trying to learn from each song I make.
I really like your latest body of work “Shock EP” can you tell us more about it, what kind of sound were going for?
Funny story how the “Shock EP” came to life, I was sitting in my room one day and I was going through songs on my laptop. I’ve been wanting to release the song “Lifestyle” with my brother Channel, but I was so caught up with newer music that it got lost in the mix. If you’re an artist reading this you know those throwaway tracks that don't make the cut you kind of stow them away in the vault and they’re never heard.
IMG_2436.jpg
I had a bright idea to put a few of my throwaways all on an EP because if I was to put them out alone they wouldn't do as well. That same night I gathered all the songs I wanted throwaways from 1-2 years ago to throwaways from this year. I kind of just leaked my own shit in a way and it turned out good. I got good feedback and some of those songs I can perform and people will know them.
What can we expect from you in the near future?
In the near future you can expect a new music video shot by @poloviz on Instagram he is one of the youngest videographers out here in CT and he bodies it every time. It will be our third video together. Y'all go check him out and show my boy some love! Also you can expect more music from me for sure and that's always something to look forward to.
Plug yourself where can your fans find you, your music, and more content you put our
All my social media is under @JosifGrey and you can find me on any major music platform as Josif Grey.
Any last words?
Dreams never happen overnight, and the day you stop grinding could be the very day you get that chance to crack that door wide the fuck open. So really what ever it is you do fucking do that shit. Never stop because you've been given a gift and that gift has a purpose, find that shit.
If you want to keep up with Josif Grey and his music you can find his soundcloud above and follow him on Instagram here. Be sure to listen to Shock EP by him and check out his newest song East End. WSTSIDE IN THE HILLS - Album Interview
8753655A-4D48-467B-97BC-A36453CC21B3.jpeg
How did you meet Moflo Music and what led to the collaboration?
I met Moflo Music through a good artist friend of mine by the name Tarron Belle and he was like “bro you have to link with Moflo because he’s the goat” so i said bet and hit the bro up and it’s been effortless ever since.
Give us some background on WSTSIDEHILLS, what inspired the album and what themes and sounds were you going for in creating this EP?
I was going for a dark melodic trap/island in the hills sound for imagery purposes just to paint a picture for the listeners.
How long did it take to create the EP, and at what point did you know that it was ready?
2 days honestly but I ended up adding a couple songs later before the release.
IMG_2190.jpeg
The EP is truly heat from front to back with each song sounding different from each one, can you break down each song for us?
Yes of course starting with Involved which is about being out of a relationship with someone, but because you both are in the same area and you hear about each other and even though you lust for one another it doesn’t mean you should be involved with them because some people are just bad for you.
Speed is all about the transition between friendships and relationships where you start the process of elimination because some people just aint on the same shit as you therefore  they’re not up to speed.
762 is just a metaphor for a bullet symbolizing losing yourself for someone ultimately dying to be reformed but at the same time glorifying a ride or die women who is with whatever for her man. Sometimes we say “if a person doesn’t love me for me then i don’t want them” but sometimes we don’t own up to the fact that we must change to become a better person for ourselves and for who we love.
Cease Fire is all about someone not having to “put a gun to your head” for you to love them or treat them how they should be treated. The song can also be received as being rejected and let down but having the heart to withstand the pressure because some people go through a lot in life and it takes a strong person to be patient and be willing to break down those walls.
Yute is all about a girl talking down on my name and treating me like I am capable of making childish decisions with her heart such as cheating or lying to her but what she doesn’t know is that her friends are jealous and putting that in her head because they can’t find a man like me “misery loves company”
Criminal is all about being single and before you can blink you’re in a relationship and in love before you know it as if someone stole your heart.
Miss Out is all about whether or not a girl is willing to take this ride with me through fame and everything that comes with it and just be down for me and if not she got to go simple.
Let’s talk about the features, you feature 3 artists who we’ve actually interviewed before Hrtbrkfever, Serena Isioma, And Dazeoneast. What made you feature them in the EP, and what’s your background with them?
I discovered Hrtbrk through soundcloud I started with playing Frvrfriday and songs just kept playing until it got to one of his crazy songs called “Gunonsafety ft Lnlyboy” and his social media was attached so I hit him up and everything else is history that’s my brother for sure.
Serena did my interview for Nefarious Supply The Goats” and she hit me up when i posted “I need a female vocalist for my Ep” and she was so confident that something made me comfortable with choosing her even before i checked her music out. She is amazing!
Last but not least “The Carolina Reaper” , Dazeoneast I fuck with bro so heavy and he is very reliable for example if you send a open to him it’s going to be flawless when you get it back plus he is very genuine and lowkey with everything. All of these artists I named inspire me everyday and it’s no doubt that they will be big one day.
When can we expect visuals for WSTSIDEHILLS?
Honestly i want to take a route where I drop a visual of a single that no one has ever heard before and it just shocks everyone, just something fresh and unexpected.
What’s your favorite song on the EP and why?
Involved i just think as an intro it definitely hits and is very universal situation everyone can relate to.
What can we expect from you and HILLSIDE Records?
Winter is coming and this is when you will hear the best of me. Also visuals and more of a raw version of me  just being more vulnerable and open to let listeners in my life..
Anything you want to add?
Keep streaming Wstside In The Hills and tell a friend love you guys and remember to check on your friends and love-ones because it’s not just about the music.
KNAW$ Defining Personal Prospectives
6A680DBB-DFE7-4085-BAC8-7AFDAD7C9057.JPEG
What is Knaws? What does the company stand for?
KNAWS came from the original word “Swank”, which means it displays one’s wealth, knowledge, and achievements. Since everyone has their own way/lenses on how they see things I decided to write swank backwards into KNAWS, which is my knowledge and achievement. Knaws means you define your own perspectives, you define yourself. As humans we don’t all see the same things. Knaws symbolizes seeing things in different perspectives and using it to create, learn, and being yourself.
What style of clothing would you describe your company as?
The style of clothing is streetwear but also causal wear. The company creates cool and comfortable clothes for people to wear at events, parties, etc. It has a sporty/ graphic look with many light colors which makes it pop.
What does this company represent? How does the local community and culture contribute to your company?
The company represents individuals making a name for themselves, the clothing also symbolizes for hope, confidence, knowledge etc. Being from NYC has a lot to do with my clothing company, all my inspiration came from the environment in which I grew up in. There’s a lot of talent in NYC but many people are afraid. As a pre-teen/teenager I was motivated by Ronnie Fieg, owner of Kith. Ronnie was my first inspiration, the way he created his pieces uniquely fascinated me.  Ronnie envisioned many pieces of cloth which he brought to life, also he uniquely came up with the name “Kith” to represent family. He used a name that was close and personal to him just how I chose knaws.
What does your clothing line consist of?
Knaws clothing is a clothing line based on free expression and using the environment to create hope and motivation for the children/adults in the community. Not only for children, but also teens and adults who feel lost. Knaws clothing promotes individuals to take a risk and invest in those things they have always wanted to do but were too scared of to try or too self-conscious of what people can think of them. Knaws is a business made up of innovation and passive thinking, with the drive and intention to create and promote accomplishments, health, success, wealth, and conceptions.
What colour palate do you use with your fashion?
I like to use light colors that stand out because it gives the clothing piece life. Giving the brand these colors really help us stand out from any other brand.
IMG_3702.PNG
Where do you draw inspiration from?
I draw inspiration from the community I surround myself with, and I also draw inspiration from music. Ermias Asghedom, better known as Nipsey Hussle in the hip-hop culture was one of the greatest influencers in my life. His music pushed me closer to my goals and made me believe that I can achieve whatever I put my mind too. Joey Bada$$ was also a big influence on my brand. His music and style are the reason’s I came up with the brand Knaws.
Is your company’s style based off of anything specific? Where and when did you discover it?
The style of the company originally had a hippy vibe to It, I listened to a lot of Joey Bada$$ and his entourage “Pro Era”. They always used the word swank, which is where I got the word from. I had a group of friends who were also motivated by Joeys music. We started to create music, art, and more. I was in the 8th grade when I made this discovery, Joeys music opened my mind up and made me think outside the box, I wanted to be just as creative as his group so I followed their dress codes, their rhythms and rhymes and tried to fit my own looks and personality into Knaws while also incorporating their culture as well.
Is there a fashion statement currently that stands out to you?
The only fashion statement that I care and stands out to me is comfortability and happiness in what you are wearing. I want Knaws to be known for something proactive, promoting good and wearing things freely.
Is there any certain year of fashion that you would like to beckon back to?
The year 2000-2005. People wore things freely and the music was a lot more uplifting in terms of it brought communities together as well as in fashion.
IMG_3704.JPG
Where do you find the best fashion is?
The best fashion is found within yourself, open your mind and wear whatever makes your feel happy and comfortable. That is where the best fashion is found in my opinion.
In terms of models who do you use to model your clothing?
I like to use Friends, strangers and Instagram models. Shout out to my models @Hummyvr, @Rodneyonawav and photographer @Youngwepa. They are all talented individuals whom I can say define knaws in all attributes. They create art in their own forms and do not let others get in the way of their crafts. They define themselves. I like to make people feel wanted and beautiful.
Where can people check out your brand and order your clothing?
As of now they can check up on new drops and alert’s on Instagram, @Knaws.ny. Website is in the works and should be up soon with all the new drops and little short clips of what Knaws is and what it means.
Is there anything you would like to say to finish off?
First, id like to thank Wes and Xavier from the Nefarious Supply team for taking the time and giving me the opportunity for this interview, Next id like to say that if you are reading this, anything is possible. Thoughts do become things, it’s the law of attraction and all you must do is put your mind and effort into it. You won’t know what you’re meant for until you put your self out there, take the risk, create, accomplish, and be happy. Encourage yourself to be confident enough to do things you have never done. Stand tall, be bold, have fun. Too many people in the world for you to worry what they think of you and how they define you.
You Define YOURSELF
SXINT P
Press Pic 3.jpg
Dude, your sound is incredibly unique. How would you describe your sound?
Thank you - that’s the best compliment. You said it perfectly already - I think it’s unique.
But if I had to elaborate, overall my sound is dark. My lyrics are mostly emotional, depressing, sexual, confronting, and honest. The topics I write and sing about are mainly love and relationships, mental health, drug and other types of abuse. I love using textural or cinematic sounds too (like rain, dialogue, knife/sword slashing, telephone ringing, etc.).
I don’t think I fit exactly into one genre, but R&B, Hip-Hop, Trap, Trapsoul, Alternative R&B, Alternative Pop, are some that come to mind. And lastly, there’s a huge list of artists that I look up to and who influence my sound, but I’ll let you figure out who they might be after you’ve heard my stuff.
Would you say your sound matches your style?
Press Pic 5.jpg
100%. I pretty much only wear black and like I said before, my sound is dark. I also like to layer a lot of my clothing, and if you dive a little deeper into the sounds/lyrics I use - there’s plenty of layers to my songs. So both my style and songs are perfect for winter.
Who are some of your style inspirations?
To be completely honest, there’s nobody in particular that I really look to for style inspiration. It’s mainly groups of people like famous musicians (R&B, Hip-Hop, Rock), actors, designers, models, and athletes (NFL, NBA, Soccer players). Pretty much every single person I’ve ever seen/met but they gotta be unique or innovative. Then when I see something that I really dig, I’ll find a way to put my own flavour/twist on it. That’s what having style is.
What image are you trying to show through your social media? In other words, who is SXINT P?
I think if you try and show an image through social media or whatever platform, people can tell you’re faking it straight away. Your audience deserves better than that - they ain’t dumb.
So there’s no real image I’m trying to portray. Just trying to be the realest and rawest version of me as possible. I’ve always hidden the depressed/anxious side of me (in my everyday life) because it makes people uncomfortable and who wants to be around someone miserable?
I’m sure a lot of people can relate to that, which is why I do what I do. To answer your question, SXINT P is someone who wants to reach as many people as possible and show them that they are not alone. We all have our demons, so it’s ok to feel the way you do - you don’t have to be ashamed or hide it. Reach out and ask for help if you need it.
How did you get your name?
I love this question. I used to go by my birth name, but I realised there’s probably millions of people with that same name. I wanted something that only I had, so earlier this year I just said ‘fuck it’ and stayed up all night thinking of a new name. I probably had a list of 50-100 names but they all had to have SP as the initials (I’d already sold merch with my SP logo on it, so it’d be unfair to those who bought).
It got to like 7AM, when I came up with Saint P which sounds sick, but that was already taken. So I changed the ‘A’ to a ‘X’ and that shit looks fire. One of those moments where you just knew. The X and I in my name also makes 11 in Roman numerals, which is my birth month (November). Everything aligned and it was perfect, fits well with the direction I wanna take my music and it’s a name that I can just envision up in lights. Also, who doesn’t want to be a fuckin’ Saint. That’s on some angelic immortal type-shit.
Finally, I googled ‘SXINT P’ and nothing came up so it was completely unique. Done.
Then I finally slept all day after that...
Are you content with where you are creatively?
Nowhere near content. I’m constantly learning and expanding my techniques / inspirations so that I can get better and execute my ideas in the best way possible. Also always looking out for new talent or artists in different fields/genres. Fashion, movies, TV, books, painting, etc.
That’s how you get better creatively. For example, I’m rewatching a 90s anime series right now (Neon Genesis Evangelion), and the amount of ideas that have stemmed from that is unbelievable.
Whenever someone asks me this question, I’m always gonna say no. Because if you think you know it all or you’re content with where you’re at, then you stop growing and you plateau. The day that I’m content with where I’m at creatively… kill me.
Are you working on any new music?
Yessir. I got plenty of collabs otw with some really talented artists like Sin Santos, Carter, A Certain Energy, and more. My favourite upcoming single is called ‘Devil May Cry’ and that’s dropping in October with an incredible music video to go with it. And if everything goes to plan, I wanna drop an EP on my birthday! (November 1).
Plug yourself (social media and where people can find your music).
@SXINTP on Instagram, Facebook, and SoundCloud (I don’t have a Twitter).
My music is on all the streaming platforms - just type in SXINT P and you should find it. Newest single ‘Villain’ just dropped a couple weeks ago!
Y’all can also find everything on my website too ( www.sxintp.com )
Any last words?
This question is giving me ‘I’m about to kill you’ vibes… 😂
Nah, thank you for having me and putting me on! This was a dope interview and I hope we helped someone out there who needed to hear my message or music.
Love,
SXINT
Big thanks to SXINT P for coming on and interviewing with Nefarious Supply. To keep up with him and new releases coming from him you can find his Soundcloud above, and you can follow him on Instagram here.
BROCKHAMPTON Heals Old Wounds with GINGER
brockhampton-new-album-ginger-1563478174-compressed.jpg
BROCKHAMPTON is an American rap collective based out of San Marcos, Texas. The self-proclaimed boyband reached stardom through the release of their SATURATION trilogy back in 2017, where the group released three full-length LPs within months of each other, all of them dense with potent lyricism, incredible production, and even some semblance of lore and world-building.
Ameer.jpg
By the time the band released SATURATION III , they’d cultivated a dedicated, almost cult-ish fan base, with millions of views on their music videos and live shows that were sold out to the nosebleeds. There seemed to be no way the boys could stop their forward momentum. They’d even signed a million dollar deal with recording label, RCA Records.
And then, the news of Ameer Vann caught fire.
BROCKHAMPTON had a fourth album in the works titled Puppy, however the project was soon delayed due to allegations of sexual misconduct and emotional trauma, levied against ex-member, Ameer Vann. When these allegations turned out to be true, the boyband addressed them in a Twitter post (to the left), stating that Ameer was no longer apart of the group, and that they had been lied to.
This decision, though in line with the band’s brand and cultural sensitivity, as well as their own personal morals, divided their fan base. Fans that were happy about the decision and praised them for sticking to their standards, no matter who it may have been, clashed with those who thought their verdict was unfair and completely out of left field.
This, plus the obvious pain and confusion the members themselves felt towards the situation, drove them to cancel the remaining dates of their tour, as well as stop the production of Puppy all-together, due to Vann’s heavy presence and influence on the project.
During these few months, the band went on hiatus, in order to regroup and recover from the incident.
On August 26, 2018, after the release of various tracks, listed under the the boyband dropped their fourth official studio album, iridescence. The album was a drastic difference to their earlier projects, and even though it was received fairly well, even reaching number one on the US Billboard 200, making it the group’s first chart-topping album, it seemed as though the band hadn’t fully come to grips with who they were as artists after their departure from Ameer.
The band themselves seemed to empathize with the way their fans felt, and took another hiatus after their i’ll be there tour, bleeding up into the next year, where vocalist Kevin Abstract dropped his second album, Arizona Baby in April. Soon after, he announced on an Instagram story that BROCKHAMPTON were working on their fifth studio album, GINGER.
When the album finally dropped just this past week, the response was undeniably positive. On this album, BROCKHAMPTON seems to have reached a state of maturity and introspection that could only come from the experiences and lessons they’d learned throughout this entire ordeal. If iridescence was the representation of the boys’ ambivalence, then GINGER is definitely their direct response to everything that has happened in their lives in the past year and a half.
The opening track NO HALO, which feature rising artist Deb Never, thrusts listeners into the center of GINGER’s theme, going back to your roots, without forgetting just how far you’ve come. The track takes on themes of imperfection, failed relationships, breakups, substance abuse and mental health, which bolsters the somber ripeness of the band’s sound.
The following track, SUGAR speaks to the band’s longing for love in the midst of drug obsessions and sleepless nights in empty beds. It’s an ode to the heart, a concept BROCKHAMPTON seems to have down to a tee. BOY BYE almost completely obliterates the last two somber tracks with a dark, yet poppy beat underneath smooth flows and double-edged, boastful lyricism. Every member shines on this track and it truly becomes an entire vibe. By the end of the track, your finger will already be hovering over the repeat button. In HEAVEN BELONGS TO YOU the band takes a step back and let’s rising artist Slowthai take the stage. The UK artist raps about his mental health and relationship with religion over Romil and Jabari classic BH production.
ST. PERCY mixes the energy of the SATURATION series with the intensity of iridescence, with incredible flows and lyrical twists lying on a heavy 808 driven, bass-boosted beat, assorted in a way only BROCKHAMPTON could to bring the entire track to life.
Feeding off the energetic energy of the last two tracks, the song IF YOU PRAY RIGHT continues this streak for the next five minutes, with very religious driven lyrics from the boys, each member tackles their own thoughts on religion as a whole and how the concept has taken root in their lives. Apparently a Jehovah’s witness had even visited the band’s house one day during the production of the album, which maybe started or bolstered the influence of this track.
However, with the song DEARLY DEPARTED, the album’s themes come to a head. This is easily the most emotional and vulnerable song that BROCKHAMPTON has made. With heartfelt and introspective performances from Kevin Abstract, JOBA, Matt Champion, and Dom McLennon. Dom shines on this track especially, with his verse seemingly revealing the reason behind the title of the track. It is in reference to ex-member Ameer Vann, who’s situation is explained above. In a since deleted tweet, McLennon revealed that Vann had allegedly set up an ambush for Dom’s friend to be robbed. The frustration and anger of not only that but also the lies and pain he had caused his friends shines through clearly on this track. The title odes to the end of an era and a final farewell to Ameer as a friend, bandmate, and reason for the group’s suffering.
Still in the trenches of the prior track, the band gets hype still with I BEEN BORN AGAIN. The track a stripped of major production, adding only a smooth dark beat, some well-timed chants, and glitched adlibs in the background. Every vocalist of the band comes dead center on this track, showcasing their lyrical abilities and re-welcoming their audience to the world of BROCKHAMPTON, this being the first single they released off of GINGER. Topics of drug abuse and their newfound fame
GINGER is the title track of the album and brings vibes similar to SUGAR, with the boys diving back into the vulnerable and melancholic themes the previous track have brought forth. This track is dual sided, producing a homely feeling for the ones listening, whilst also being far away, as if our lover/friend/family member is wishing us good luck and letting us know that there is always a home, a family, a friendship, and a romance to come home to. Taking inspiration of Ne-Yo and Jamie Foxx’s “She Got Her Own”, the band puts their own unique spin on it, making a summer track for the ages.
The song BIG BOY is another reminiscent track, looking back on where BROCKHAMPTON was, and the experiences they’ve undergone in order to become the artists they are now. The title of the track could also play on the stigma of masculinity in modern society, a topic the band has played around with on other tracks on the album, and other projects altogether. Growing up is a hard thing, but the group seems to have come out of the ashes, more mature and stronger than before, albeit a bit woeful.
By this point in the album, you can see a trend. The band has grown and healed wounds of past tribulations, yet learning from their mistakes and delving into that darkness. This is seen on LOVE ME FOR LIFE where themes of vampiric loneliness and coming from the “dirt” to the fame and fortune they have today.
The last track, VICTOR ROBERTS, features a completely new artist to the fold, by the same name. Subjects such as troubled family history, extreme drug obsession which leads to broken trust and betryal. Victor is one of Dom’s close friends and this is the first song he has ever recorded. VICTOR ROBERTS is easily the second heaviest on the album, and is swelled into an amazing finish by a mixture of Ryan Beatty’s and Bearface’s beautiful, anthemic chorus and bridge.
~~~~~

At the end of this review, I’ve come to see that GINGER seems to be a form of catharsis and it does its job well to close a chapter in the band’s lives that they will always have access to, but choose to move forward from. BROCKHAMPTON delivers on everything their fans and they themselves were waiting for.
