Scotty Apex - Data Bend

Scotty, welcome back to Nefarious Supply to date this is our third time featuring you and we couldn't be more excited to have you on again. To get this interview started give us an update on what’s been going on with you, how was 2022, and how is the new year so far?

Wait, 2022 is over already? Haha. I feel like 2022 went by so fast for me. These last few years honestly have zoomed by, but this was another year I found a lot of growth, creatively, spiritually, internally, experienced a lot and learned more. Very thankful I was able to release my album DATA BEND towards the end of the year, been releasing videos from the project each week carrying into 2023. So this new year has been off to a good start, already been able to connect with more people, releasing work that i feel very proud of, and I'm thankful for the people in my life. I’m ready to approach this year with a positive perspective and hopefully reach the goals I've set out for myself.

Since we last featured you, what are some things  you’ve learned on your artistic journey, what has the overall experience been like in the industry, and what are you most looking forward to?

Over time, I think I’ve always found new ground as an artist, new landscapes to explore and experiment with. I listen to a lot of music, and incorporate influence from many places, even visually from film. So I’ve thankfully been able to keep myself from feeling stagnant and it always feels like there is evolution occurring whenever I begin my next creative venture. Some things I’ve learned as of recently are the power of confidence in yourself, and how that can push you so much further into the light you want to shine with. Second guessing your instinct will deter you from the authentic reflection of what you know you can do within. Trust that feeling inside more, follow your intuitive creative nature, and let it guide you like an internal compass. Trust yourself more as an artist, know your ideas are great, and stand on them proudly.

I’m most looking forward to continuing to grow with good people around me. I also have some more videos I am working on that I am extremely excited about and proud of, so just can’t wait for people to continue to be able to see the worlds I want to create. I love when people finally have access to these ideas of mine because then I get the sense of fulfillment knowing that people can enjoy the escapism that comes from the work that goes out.

Let’s get into your new project Data Bend, break it down for us what inspired it, what your overall creative process was like putting this together, and what are your favorite songs on the album?

DATA BEND to me is the representation of a shift in understanding, perspective, and approach. That’s why the sonics have a theme of genre bending elements, because I wanted to infuse as many of my influences as possible to show the art of everything creative that I love being able to exist cohesively. The fusion of both earth’s nature or natural state merging with technology and the advancements we see as a species was a big inspiration while creating this, how the old can feel new and modernized, and how the new can reflect the positive nostalgic bits that we cherish. Fitting to that theme, the process of putting this album together utilized the technology we have at our hands right now.

For the majority of what made the album, VVD SOUND and I locked in through countless virtual discord sessions, where he would share his screen, we would go back and forth on ideas, influence, and construct these sonic worlds fitting the vision we both had in mind. A few records off of the album started out in other ways though, which is also fitting to the theme of merging different techniques together to find something great. I can remember one of the initial songs we made was “I Don’t Belong Here”. VVD was visiting my house in Los Angeles, his first time on the west coast, and I had Sammy the Producer over as well, we pulled the recording equipment into the living room. We began messing around with ideas over a loop Sam put together, VVD started adding the original drum structure, and I started blurting out melody ideas to which would later be finalized into “SO MUCH OUT MY CONTROL I CAN’T BREATH, SINCE I CAME HERE NO I DON’T WANT TO LEAVE” (the hook of IDBH). We knew this felt special, and what validated even more that this was meant to be was an accidental bottle flip that landed inside of a spare pair of shoes we had on the ground haha.

We even took a picture with the bottle in the shoe to go back and remember that moment as we all agreed in that moment, this was the start of something special, and that was our sign that we were on the right path. “Heart Shaped Bullets” came together from a fun session as well where PnkBlnkt came over to my place in the valley at the time, we setup in my room, Pnk had a mutual friend from back home in Indiana with him as well, so the vibes were there, we started toying with a few initial ideas, and then I remember Pnk started going through skeletons of ideas he had already put mostly together, and he hit play on the beat that was the idea that would become HSB, and I knew immediately that I wanted to do something crazy for it. I locked myself in a spare room for about 15 minutes, came back in the room and told everyone I had something that I thought felt really special and sentimental, recorded the vocals, and we were all loving it, it was an incredible experience and moment. Later on VVD and I added some additional things to it through discord sessions.

My personal favorite songs off of the album would have to be either “Heart Shaped Bullets”, “Girls Like You Never Light Their Own Cigarettes”, “Down Under”, or “I Don’t Belong Here”, which is a lot to list, but honestly the whole album is just so good, and I’m so proud of it and everyone who added their touch to it, this album as a whole is my favorite piece of work to date. It feels like the most authentic reflection so far of what I have always intended to create and represent.

“Since LoveSick 2” you’ve consistently had amazing album covers and Data bend is no different who helped put together the cover art for this album?

Thank you! That means a lot, I am very passionate about the visual aspects of any of my work, so to hear a compliment like this is very valued. There’s actually a continuous story throughout each cover where you can see the timeline continue to play out as each album is released, and that’s something I plan to continue to do. The DATA BEND cover was done by Jay Gonzalez, who also did the cover for STARLIGHT. He is so creative, so talented, and it’s always a blessing as well as pleasure working with him. The LOVESICK 1 & 2 covers were done by Tyshon Rosewood, so shout out to bro too!

STARLIGHT and DATABEND have two different vibes to them. How did your creative process change from STARLIGHT to  DATABEND?

When I begin the process for an album, it always starts with a general guideline in mind of an overall feeling that I want to execute, visual components that I can envision, and direction of sound. STARLIGHT had more producers involved, it was mostly made when I first moved to Los Angeles, which was early 2020, and then polished throughout the main moments of the pandemic. So there was a lot of chaos in the world, and I was hibernating in my room just working on the album, trying to make it feel atmospheric and otherworldly, pulling in ideas from a range of my producer friends. That album leaned mostly into R&B, hip hop at the core, and I think that’s one of the main differences of STARLIGHT vs. DATA BEND.

DATA BEND was a smaller creative circle, a more understood pinpoint of direction I had in mind, and I also experimented with other influences of mine, so you hear more influence of alternative rock, pop, mixed in with the R&B, some hip hop moments still, but just has more guitar, piano, and acoustic sounds incorporated. Elements that I think previous work hadn’t yet highlighted or showcased this side of me.

In terms of production, who did you work with to put DATABEND together?

VVD SOUND did the majority of production on DATA BEND, he was the executive producer, and had his touch on every single song. That’s a reflection of the creative trust I have for him. He is able to bring what I envision to life so well, and I am beyond thankful for the countless hours he put in with me to create something as special as this project is. He sat with me day after day, night after night, hour after hour, helping me bring what I wanted to create into full fruition.

There’s a few records that began with other producers, PnkBlknt for “Heart Shaped Bullets”, bended on the guitar for that as well, and VVD added some additional layers once we had the main structure. Sammy the Producer on “Down Under” as well as “GIRLS LIKE YOU NEVER LIGHT THEIR OWN CIGARETTES”, which VVD again added additional productional layers after we had the main structure. Kami Osha did some additional Guitar on “Down Under”, and Ack had his hand in “Any Other World” with VVD polishing the rest of the record.

One of the things we really like about you is your ability to push boundaries and consistently grow as an artist. How do you push yourself to new heights, and for new artists that are afraid to go against the grain what is some advice you would give them?

Well thank you! It is deeply appreciated that you give me that credit and acknowledge what I intend to do, which is that push of boundary, so thank you! Truly. I think for me, I am always reminded of why I do what I do. I deeply love music. I am so passionate about my art, it’s a direct reflection of my actual life, trials, and stories. Joe Talbot from the band IDLES had a quote in an interview that stuck with me, it was along the lines of “if you are interested, you will be interesting. If you are bored, you will be boring.” which to me, means if you have something you are truly passionate about, truly love, the greatest gift that you can give back to yourself and to the people who support you is to be so dedicated to your craft, so thankful for the people who enjoy your craft, your way of repayment to the audience and yourself is to continue to push yourself to those next advancements, to evolve, and to keep things refreshing and enjoyable. You as the artist find growth through that approach, not only creatively, but spiritually with yourself, and your audience gets to benefit from that by getting to now visually see the growth, hear it, and pull inspiration for themselves to evolve in their own life.

Going against the grain can be scary and I see how it causes fear in an artist, it is not meant to be comfortable though, that is where true growth comes from, putting yourself into something that is out of routine, it may initially feel unnatural, but eventually you will find that there’s a whole new realm of capabilities you have within yourself that would have not ever had the chance to shine if you hadn’t at least given it a try. The key here too is to remove the fear of failure or judgment. There is no room for judgment in the process of creating something that is truly unique, new, and boundary pushing. You have to have an open mind to trial and error, try seven ideas, and then choose what you like, and learn from what you don’t like. I think what would help more artists is to consume more pieces of art outside of your typical consumption. Listen to genres that you wouldn’t typically listen to, go to a museum and look at art that you don’t know how to make, watch films that are respected as boundary pushing films, pull influence from the entire spectrum of art. Art is the only thing in this world that is forever. Learn from the work that we have at our display, and turn that inspiration into a special curation of work that is authentic to you.

It’s been about four years since  you’ve released LOVESICK, since that time what’s the most important thing you’ve learned?

Wow, it’s crazy to think it’s been four years since then. In that time span, I feel like I have learned so much about myself, the world, just everything in my life has found new perspectives over and over again. So I think with me even reflecting upon that, there is an important lesson there that I have learned. We truly have the power within all of us, to create the impact that we want to make. We all have purpose, and an internal compass reminding us of the direction we need to go. Trust that feeling, choose a positive goal of action, and go do it. Remove those self doubts within, and dedicate yourself to achieving whatever it is that you have in mind to go do, because it is very possible. The point is, through all of that effort, you will find growth. Continue to grow, evolve, and that to me is what life is about. Evolving, becoming better, and leaving behind a positive impact inside of a legacy that you can be proud of.

So what’s next in 2023 and beyond?

More music is on the way, very excited to showcase that. More videos are on the way, already filmed a very special video that you will see surface in the upcoming span of this early section of the year. I want to do more clothes, and lifestyle items like furniture, or small appliances that make your daily life better. Hopefully in the bigger picture, I can also act in more movies, finish writing the scripts of the movie ideas I have, and can leave an impact in that space of creation as well. I really love film and want to have a few respected roles under my belt

Any last words?

To close off this moment of time, I would like to say thank you from the core of my soul to anyone out there that even acknowledges my existence, listens to my work, and gives attention to my art. To have your support for my art means the world to me, and makes me feel like my sacrifices are worth it, and it gives me that reassurance that I truly need to keep going and feeling like I am valued. So thank you to those who make me feel cared about.  Love more. Try more, and don’t be afraid of failure. Moving on, becoming better, and learning is the art of life. Believe in yourself, trust your intuitive feelings, and let it guide you to where you are meant to go. Anything that you want to achieve can be achieved, it will not always be easy, but that is the beauty of trying and failing, you can always try again.

Scotty Apex - Starlight

Scotty Apex what’s up bro, the last time we had you on Nefarious Supply was in 2019 when you released Lovesick 2 so we’re excited to feature you once again. To get the interview started give us an update on what you’ve been up too, and what’s new with you?

What’s good!! Yeah, it has definitely been a minute since the last album, appreciate you guys reaching out to me and acknowledging this latest release, means a lot. But yeah, there’s a lot of new things in my life since then. It was a pretty crazy year in 2020 for everyone I’m sure, it definitely was for me. In December of 2019, I graduated from college. Then in January, I moved from Indianapolis to Los Angeles. I drove all the way here, and been here in LA since. Living in LA this year has been a journey, from the pandemic, completing the album, meeting new people, it’s been like a movie.

So from the last time, we have talked to now what are some things you’ve learned about yourself, and the industry, and in learning these things have they had an influence on your overall creative process?

IMG_0355.JPG

I’ve learned a lot these past two years, and been able to make a lot of growth in many aspects of my life. I think what I’ve learned about myself most is the things I need to keep close around me, to be more direct with my words in reflection to the truth of what I’m feeling, and I guess I received a lot of reassurance from the universe that I’m on the right path with the world that I am creating for myself. As far as what I learned about the industry, there’s a lot, both positive and negative.

I think I realized that a lot is not as it seems. I was able to learn about a lot of people that I looked up to in the past, more on a personal level as to who these people really are, and unfortunately a lot of people in the industry that I came across sort ofdisappointed me. They weren’t this genuine person that I had once thought they were, and I can see how there is a lot of negative energy circulating through those circles of people, which made me want to stay far away from things I once would have dreamed of being in the room with. This definitely had an influence on my creative process, I just really want to work with people that genuinely care about me as a human being, people that I have built friendships with and truly have love for, I think the end product has been coming out a lot better that way, and it makes me more passionate about our releases knowing that it is a team of people that I really care forand am genuinely proud of.

2020 was pretty much slowed the world down but it seems like you’e able to stay focused and continue to put in a lot of work into your career. How did you stay focused during this hard time, and for artists that have a hiccup due to the pandemic what is some advice you would give them?

With the pandemic, it sort of forced people into isolation. A lot of people sort of feed off other people’s energies which I definitely understand, so with that vacancy of external validation or exposure, I can see how it is hard for people to stay inspired or focused. For me, isolation is something I have always sort of lived most of my life in, so I guess this pandemic allowed me to even indulge deeper into that way of life. I think I actually thrive in isolation more than any other circumstance. There’s no expectations, there’s no more pressure, it’s just me, my ideas, my computer, and my friends. All of my focus is now shifted on just creating the best music possible to my own ear and ability, and just becoming the best version of myself on a human level that I can. I think what helped is just having my priorities in line. I loved my family harder than I ever have before, I expressed care for my friends more than I ever have before, I just continuously tried putting out positive energy into the universe and letting it circulate back to me in time.

IMG_1574.JPG

I would suggest to anyone struggling during this weird time of life to just really focus in on loving more, as corny as that might sound, but it’s true. Just love more. Love yourself, love your family, love your friends, love your work, your art; also appreciate more, appreciate movies, appreciate songs, appreciate being able to breathe and exist, all of that appreciation for life will allow you to find the positives in a lot of negative, and when you’re thinking that way, good things come your way in time.

So let’s get into your music. You started 2021 right by releasing your newest project Starlight, and I gotta be honest you’ve raised the bar for yourself, this project is dead ass amazing! So just give us a brief background on it, what inspired it, how long have you been working on it, and what was your experience like putting it together?

Thank you for the compliment on the project, it means more to me than I can express in words. I look at all my albums as a cinematic version of my real life, they always reflect my experiences in that time period, the emotions I am feeling, the struggles, the highlights, all of my albums have that core element of my own reality. I sort of create my music in direct honesty to what I am living through, so my real life is what inspired the overall message and continuation of the story that is within my catalogue.

I started working on it just under two years ago, shortly after putting out LOVESICK 2, so sometime in 2019. It’s been a crazy journey of working on this album, and just life in general. I shed a lot of tears, created a lot of memories, learned a lot about myself and others around me, and was able to come out with the result of STARLIGHT in the end. This is just the next chapter in my catalogue, my real life story, and it reflects where I currently am in real time.

IMG_0363.JPG

If you don’t mind, walk us through the project and tell us about the meaning of each of the songs, and which ones are your overall favorites?

STARLIGHT, the intro track and title track to the album, is a song that I felt like would be the perfect introduction to the album. I thought it would be a great first impression to the world that STARLIGHT exists in, and I think it worked out to be just that. I made that one shortly after moving to LA, Lowky had sent me it and I had something down within like 20 minutes. Then after we made the track, a couple months later, I showed it to VVD and he added those additional elements that you hear on the production, like the outro. He took it to the next level, and I just knew this was the intro for the album right away. This song for me just means being positioned in this new way of life, new scenery, new feelings, new experiences, etc.

HELPLESS, is a track I wanted to be vulnerable on, but still have enough of a kick on there to keep the listener engaged and full of energy. I wrote it in a moment of emotional vulnerability, I was going through a lot, and just wanted to be brutally honest over the production in hopes someone out there would be able to relate and find comfort in the fact that I may be experiencing something similar to them. I felt helpless, it wasn’t a good feeling, I felt like I wouldn’t be able to escape, but I kept on going like the song will go to say. The meaning of this song is just that, feeling helpless, I hope this can help any listener that needed it.

CAN’T LOSE YOU, is a track that came about on a random day at the house. I came home and Mathaius had been working on a beat, he called me in his room and was like “yo I just made this and can really hear you on it”, he told me some of the melody ideas he had, and I took that, and wrote everything that night. After I finished my vocals, I told him that I needed him on the record as well, and he eventually knocked out his verse. This track is basically about a failing relationship, the feeling of fearing it ending, but recognizing the unhealthy attributes that come with it.

MISMATCH is a track that I just wanted to have fun with, and bring along some friends. I had Ejaaz and Michael Seven on there with me doing their thing, and yeah I just came up with a cool melody, filled the words in, and laid it down. The meaning of this one is just feeling like you can overcome any adversity, and aren’t afraid to showcase that to anyone who doubts you. Basically telling these internal demons that me vs you is a mismatch because I will undoubtedly win.

IMG_2085.jpg

LOST & LONELY is one of the first tracks I made from the album, almost two years ago. I was sitting in a house in Bloomington, indiana, Lucy sent me the beat through text message and was like I could hear you on this. I wrote that song in 15 minutes and laid it down later that night. At the time, I had only this song and “Smoke Away”, but I knew this was a greeting starting point for the project to really begin, and I stemmed everything else from those two songs.

ALL OF IT is a song that means I am willing to give everything that I can to this specific girl. I’m saying I am willing to let my guard down, and allow her into my space, taking my time and energy, since the first day I finished my part of the song, I left an open verse, undecided as to who would get on the project, but one day I went over to Maxx Owa’s place and thought it made perfect sense to have him on that one, he knocked out the verse in 15 minutes, and boom, a hit was born.

SMOKE AWAY is the first song I worked on from the album, almost two years ago, I went over to Mathaius’s house when we were still living in Indianapolis and made it while I was there. The meaning of this song is basically running from your internal issues, and smoking away the stress. I made this song at a time I was experiencing a lot of stress, from relationship issues, to family, friends, work, life in general, and my vice of smoking is what cured that for me.

IMG_0352.JPG

MISGUIDED is one of the last songs that I made for this project. The meaning behind this song is basically feeling lost with no sure direction as to where to go, but knowing that certain things bring emotions out of me, could be a person, a situation, etc.

WARRIOR is a track that symbolizes my want to fight through any adversity that comes from relationship issues, my willingness to try to make things work despite the disagreements, the doubts, and sort of give reassurance to a lover.

OVERNIGHT FLIGHT is a track that is me being open about missing someone far away, sort of wishing that I could fly to them overnight and see them as soon as I land.

The overall meaning of STARLIGHT is just existing in this place of uncertainty, unsure as to where I am going, where I am, only knowing where I have been. So its about me living through this grey area, just trying my best, and hoping for a better future. I just want to become all that I can be.

On Starlights guest features you tapped in an all-star cast including; Mathaius Yung, Ejaaz, Michael Seven, and Maxx Owa. How did you meet each of these artists, what made you tap them in, and what was your experience like working with each of them?

I met Mathaius in Indianapolis in 2015, I saw his name on a blog and found out he lived in the same city, I reached out to him and we’ve been working together ever since, and now currently living together in LA. I wanted to tap in with him on the album because I trust his sound a lot, believe in it, and just knew when our styles meet its always something amazing.

Ejaaz has been the homie for some years, we’re both from the same city and have been linking up for awhile now. I wanted him on the album because I love his sound, appreciate our friendship, and honestly we hadn’t made any new songs in a long time, so I had to get him on MISMATCH, and he snapped.

Michael Seven and I became really cool this year, both of us moving to LA and being around each other as much as we have, our friendship has grown a lot. It’s rare to see his vocals on records right now, and I wanted to collect that rare pokemon, and he snapped as well.

startee3.JPG

Maxx Owa has been a genuine person to me since we have met, a great friend, and just someone that I look up to on a human level of being a good person. We hadn’t made anything at the time, and I really wanted to make that happen for this. Working with each of them was organic, easy going, and absolutely amazing because they are all so talented at what they do.

You kept that allstar list going on the production end of things and worked with LOWKEYGOTHEAT, VVD, Tyrus, Bergotti, Mathaius once again, Salmon, and Kami Osha. How did you get in contact with each of these producers, what made you want to work with them, and what was your experience with them?

I like working with my friends, and they are all talented as fuck, so it was orgnanic and something I felt blessed with. Lowky and I have been in touch for some years, he is just always consistently sending me fire production, and he always has this vibe that I like to exist in, so it happens naturally with him. VVD is my boy, he snaps and can allow my vision to come to life with his abilities every single time. We just hop on facetime or Discord and he knocks out any idea I have in a single night, he’s just amazingly talented, a close friend to me, and someone I deeply believe in to get the job done every time. Tyrus is the homie as well, we’ve had a friendship for years, I wanted to make sure I had him on this album, and he always these unique bounces that create something that isn’t always made. He a rare one.

The cover art is amazing bro how did that come together, and how did you end up working with Jay to put it together?

I had this initial idea of what I wanted in my head, and got lucky enough to discover Jay Gonzeles on Twitter, who I immediately loved. I hit him in the DM’s telling him my idea, and he snapped so hard on it. It was as easy as that, been in touch since.

So as far as the project do you plan on putting out any visuals to accompany it or are you going to expand it further with a deluxe version?

Yes, sitting on a visual for “HELPLESS” that will be seen very soon. Also, shot visualizers for each song on the project that will be up in some time as well. I do have a plan for a deluxe version of the album with some special attributes, but I guess time will have to reveal that. :)

So what’s next for you in 2021 where do you want to be by the end of the year?

I’m not sure what’s next to be honest, I’m more so living presently as much as I can, which is something I haven’t always done. I want to continue pushing STARLIGHT as much as possible, with high quality additional content, in hopes I can build a bigger audience, maybe open some doors, and yeah just keep going.

Xavier Clark - Sunset on Sunday - EP

IMG_6129.JPG

Hey Xavier Clark thanks for coming on and interviewing with Nefarious Supply, my first question to you is who is Xavier Clark, give us an introduction to you and your craft?

Thanks for having me i was raised in Indianapolis, IN originally from rock island, IL my music is all based off vibes i get from the beats so you never know what it will sound like i like my music to be unpredictable.

Where are you from and how has this location influenced you, and your style of music?

I grew up in Indianapolis,IN i was fortunate enough to find people on the same wave length as me being from Indy you gotta go hard or you won’t get noticed out here late night drives through the city influence my music.

You have a pretty extensive discography for an underground artist all of which is heat  but two bodies of work really stands out to me is, “Secluded”, and “Secluded 2” Give us some background on each of them?

I named it Secluded because I’m really an introvert type of person you never really know my location i stay within my camp when it comes to my personal life and music the first project is more of me finding my sound being locked in just me and my studio. The second one is really showing the world i found myself and my sound trying to prove I’m here to stay going out to LA has always been an inspiration I’m sure you can hear it.

You have worked with numerous musicians including; Carti Bankx, Krews, Will C.Kami Osha, Mula Kkhan, 1990bishop, Tyrus, Scotty Apex, Relax and Baby Ebony, how did you meet all of them, and how did their creative process compliment yours to create music that both of you were happy with?

Everyone you named is on the same wave length as me when it comes to the sound sonically we all compliment each other. Scotty Apex that’s the homie we from the same city same goes for mula kkhan and baby ebony. If it wasn’t for Will C. Idk if I’d have the sound i have today he’s the mastermind behind it. Kami and Tyrus both out in Cali Tyrus really been fuckin with me since day 1 kami put that sauce on the prescription hook and artwork big ups to Krews too everytime we link on a song its A1. I’m very strategic i knew our sound would click.

IMG_0858.JPG

You put out your newest tape this “Sunset on Sunday” on September 9. 2019. The tape  absolutely goes crazy! Give us some info on the EP, what was the goal of it and what theme were you going for with it?

Man me Scotty Apex and Mathaius Young would meet up every other Sunday to make these songs it just made sense to name it sunset On Sunday we all got that Cali vibe which influenced the artwork me and Scotty Apex like Kobe and Shaq you can’t go wrong with that combination.

What got you and Scotty Apex together to make Sunset on Sunday, and what is your  favorite thing about working with him, and can we expect another tape from the two of you again in the future?

Q:

Let us know about yourself, as an artist and person.

A:

I'm currently 22 years of age, so I'm at a transitional period in my life where a lot of things are changing, I'm experiencing a lot, learning a lot, growing a lot, and trying my best to overcome things from my past that have caused me damage that I still deal with today. I grew up always feeling like an outcast, not to sound cliche because I know a lot of people want to be different nowadays, but as I lived out my youth, I really did feel sort of separated from everyone around me.

I typically stay to myself, and that may be due to issues I've had with anxiety, depression, and other very negative internal battles, but my energy has always been one that sort of drifted solo for some reason, and it's not always by choice. As a artist, that's why I really cling to the music I create, it has always been that friend I could go to.

Music is and always has been my escape. Which really leads into my intention with my music, I want to be that escape for others. I know what it is like to feel alone, feel like there is no hope, feel like the only thing I could relate to was the words from other artists that I looked up to. For example, Kid Cudi was one of those artists for me, his words helped me through my pain, I want to be able to provide that same feeling that was given to me.

I want people to know who I am completely, know my story, know what I represent, know my flaws, know my pains, know my strengths, know that they are not alone in what they are feeling because I have a piece of art that is so raw and vulnerable that they see a bit of themselves through me.

Q:

What cultures and experiences cultivate this persona or identity of yours?

A:

The main thing that drives everything I represent is EMOTION, feelings that I have went through. Heartbreak was really something that sort of fueled and sparked every initial piece I was putting out.

I started out creating out of hurt, anger, and put so much passion into expressing that as clear as possible through aggression.

Now, as I have grown more and more, and learned more from every day life, I express more melodically and less aggressively, but fueled by the same thing, EMOTION. As far as cultures, I spent a lot of time in Toronto, which has such a different way of life than what I grew up experiencing.

Some of my best friends are there, I made so many memories out there, experienced so much, felt so much, seen so much, and the Toronto culture for sure has made its mark on my identity.

I got to visit Tokyo in December of 2018, and that changed my perspective on life a lot as well.

Everyone there was so loving towards me, so welcoming, and that in itself was something that I had not felt a lot, and was very refreshing. Seeing the fashion there, the way things move, Tokyo definitely made its impact on me as a person as well.

Q:

What keeps your current audience listening and why should people start listening?

A:

I think what my current audience appreciates the fact that I am so open and vulnerable to them. A lot of things creatively are so fabricated and polished, and I think stepping in the opposite direction of that to leave everything so raw is why people gravitate towards my music. So, when you mix a good intention with a good final product, I think it makes that listening experience that much more meaningful, and that's why people stick to it.

Q:

What platform can people reach your content on the most conveniently?

A:

I use all platforms, so my work is pretty conveniently all over the place. The main ones that people use and listen to my work on would be Spotify, iTunes, SoundCloud, and YouTube.

I have an album out right now titled "LOVESICK" and I feel like that is a great starting place for anyone who wants to discover me as an artist, and all that I represent. From there, I think as a listener you will enjoy finding all the other gems that I have out right now.

Q:

How has your experience in the industry been thus far?

A:

My experience in this industry has evolved so much. When I first started out, I knew what I wanted to represent, I just didn't quite know how to execute it correctly to my vision. As I progressed, I learned so much.

I have met so many amazing people, and I have had some amazing experiences. I have had my ups and downs, but being able to meet or even work with people I have really looked up to has made it all worth it.

I've been to houses of some of my favorite artists to work on music, I met my favorite artist of all time (Kid Cudi) in Cleveland, I've done song writing for artists that I really like, so as time progresses I know more and more is going to happen, so my experience with the industry has been fairly good to me so far.

On the other end of that, I have definitely had some poor experiences with people with bad intent, people who talk a lot of action but never make anything happen, so I've learned its best to just stick with your team and the people you trust, work hard, and let things fall into place as you strategize them to.

Q:

Do you have an outstanding moment since you got into the music industry that makes you realize how important it is to make music like this? If so what would that be?

A:

I think an outstanding moment that I've had was when a girl I went to High school with reached out to me, very emotional, crying and all, and told me how much my LOVESICK album helped her through a really dark time in her life. She was going through so much, and one thing that really brought her comfort throughout those battles was my album. In a moment like that, it really hit me that my intention with music is truly helping others just like I wanted it to, and I knew I had to stick to this path.

Q:

Is there any one song that you’ve made that stands out from the rest? Any songs that people should listen to that will get people hooked?

A:

"Stay or Run" is a very honest and open track, I feel like that track communicates a lot of my story, my intentions, and who I am. "LUVSICK" as well, definitely a very emotionally fueled song that I made in a time where I was really depressed and heartbroken. Walk us through the steps you take to create a track.

Q:

What is your creative process? Do you happen to just walk into the studio and throw some beats on until one sticks? Or is there a more delicate process involved?

A:

I've worked in different scenarios, situations, settings, and I've definitely learned my preferences. I can write a full song in under 10 minutes though if it comes to it. There has been situations where I'll be with a producer as they are working on structuring a beat, and I'll already have the song done before they even finish the beat, just give me something small to work off of and I can finish something crazy as quick as needed.

I actually prefer to work on music in my bedroom though, or somewhere that allows me to feel at home.

Typically, one of my friends that produces will have sent me a beat. The beat has to make me feel some sort of emotion, it has to pull me in and sort of give me a canvas that is ready for me to paint with words.

Once I have picked out the production, I play it a few times and come up with ideas for melodies that I can hear sounding good with it. Once I get a basic idea of the direction, I sort of zone out, I think about what I feel and have experienced, and I let it pour out onto what I am writing.

Once I have everything written, I record and lay down the layers of vocals needed, then send them off to my engineer and tell him what I think would sound good.

The formula I have been using has been working for me, and I am so proud of all my friends that work with me.

Q:

Where do you think you would be at this very moment if you weren't pursuing your career in music?

A:

Probably pursuing something in the film industry, whether that be the acting itself, or the writing, or the production. I think I just like to create cool pieces of art that hold an entertaining value.

I actually have taken classes to fulfill a minor in film studies with my bachelors degree, and I have learned a lot, and gained a lot of creative inspiration by studying certain directors from all eras of film.

Q:

Lastly, what advice or experiences would you like to share with your peers or anyone else who is up and coming in this industry?

A:

Just be honest with yourself and your audience. Create because you love to create, create because it makes you feel something.

Q:

Also, is there anything you'd like for us to promote?

A:

LOVESICK 2 is on the way.
