DMV

[MYMHM 5] - Rico Nasty - Nightmare Vacation

rico.jpg

Rico Nasty, whew. What else can we say? Originating from Prince George’s County, Maryland, the DMV artist has made waves in the music industry that have had the metaphorical boats rocking since her Tales of Tacobella mixtape. Rico has put out consistent and solid projects since then, including the headbanging, face souring Sugar Trap 2, which helmed fan favorites such as “Poppin” and “Key Lime OG”. Her debut album, Nasty, featured upcoming artists at the time such as Blocboy JB and Lil Gnar, and with the coming of her sophomore project, Anger Management, Rico had officially solidified her name in the rap game.

Now with her final studio debut project, Rico Nasty’s Nightmare Vacation has finally taken stage. Take a ride with us as we walk you down the the chaos ridden beaches of Rico’s World.

Candy

An aggressive and hyperactive first track off the project has Rico throwing listeners in an off-kilter production, engineered by Jay Que, supplemented by her subtle, yet gnarly lyricism. On this track Rico beckons her haters and critics to try their best because they’re going to have to kill or fight because, despite all of the negative energy, she’s shining brightly regardless, evident in her first lyric:

“On a dark and stormy night, I don't blend in, bitch, I shine bright (Okay)”

(fyi) There is a more in-depth analysis into this particular lyric on Genius.

IPHONE

IPHONE is the most experimental of the tracks on the project, with innovative producer Dylan Brady, who fans speculated was 100 Gecs due to their similar engineering styles. IPHONE is a trap song on an EDM trip, switching between the genres effortlessly as Rico styles out in a high-pitched, elecrtic synth vox-like delivery, followed by beautiful harmonies.

Honestly, this song is just a vibe. We love it. That’s it.

STFU

STFU is is probably one of our favorites due to Rico’s bare delivery on the track. She didn’t let the beat rest, and surprisingly vice-versa, bringing out this beautiful give and take that drew us in from start to finish. Rico’s storytelling has also improved, proving her growth as an artist in such a short period of time, lyrically and as a curator of her style of music, scream rap.

Back & Forth (with Amine)

Any day Rico and Amine decide to collaborate, the fans are always happy. The Sugarparents feed their children since Amine’s vibe-ridden ONEPOINTFIVE. On the beautifully orchestrated track (thank you CashMoneyAP) the two vetted rappers go “back and forth” with each other, slipstreaming through each other’s topics, ranging from not wanting to play games to the fear of saying what they need to say for whatever this is to move forward.

The song is an absolute vibe and Amine is already a fan favorite of mine, a very good collab!

Smack A Bitch (ft. ppcocaine, Sukihana, & Rubi Rose)

Smack A Bitch has been a staple track that signifies most, if not all, of what Rico is trying to convey in her music, with the energy, the grit, the demand for respect, the absence of care, Rico made this breakout single back in 2018, and decided to bring it back in full force on Nightmare Vacation, with the help of some of the most confidence off-kilter black female rappers in the game.

ISOLATION STATION EP 2 - The Hype Don't Stop

IMG_4036 (1).JPG

In this segment we’re giving life to the leagues of music being dropped every week during this trying, yet, interestingly enough, personal time. We at Nefarious Supply want you guys to always have a new underground project or creator, either on your mind, on your playlist, or on your feed in some way, shape, or form. In this instance, we’re doing this on an episodic basis and deciding to write on all the new music coming in through this station, five tracks at a time.

Our second episode brings us bangers from rap collectives such as DKTM and the Van Buren Boys, as well as sprinkles in some international sound from Calgary’s MainCiaga. Chicago newcomer Saeed accompanies Down Silence and Gussi Chamberlain in this six-track rotation.

Take a look! 😈

Van Buren Boys - Mo in the Benz

The newest release from the Brockton label, Van Buren Records, the VB Boys aren’t letting their foot off the gas this quarantine. Mo in the Benz is the third installment of the Van Buren Boys, which features every member of the label on a track.

Starting with heavy-hitting production from R Louie and an infectious chorus from Luke Bar$, Lord Felix slides into the flow, smooth as always.

He alley-oops to Jiles, who drops heavy and confident bars before slipping right back into the chorus. Saint Lyor helms the last verse and sets the production on fire for the last minute and ten seconds, closing the hype anthem off on a high note.

Pope Loud - Weight (ft. Blk Lexx & Beggar Allan Poe)

A Nefarious favorite, DKTM is back again with members Pope.Loud, Blk Lexx and upcoming artist Beggar Allan Poe, coming together for the silky and illustriously lucid track, Weight.

The first thing that catches your eye on Weight is the sheer depth of the production, from heavy bass and 808s to some sort of frantic synth progression and an overlaying sultry melody, the beat in and of itself is great.

Praise Baat Choy and Mouse. However, the vocals and lyricism of the track make it that much greater. Pope, Beggar, and Blk switch flows and pass verses smoothly throughout the duration of the track, letting off on various dark and brooding topics and ideals, bringing the overall atmosphere of the track to a head.

Saeed - Wicked Games Remix

Saeed is an upcoming rap artist based in Uptown, Chicago. In this dusky flip of the Weeknd’s Wicked Games, Saeed takes his time in the world of the XO King, embedding himself into the additional lyricism he spits over the slow and deliberate production.

He speaks on drunken nights, leaps of lust, fake love, drug obsession, and much more, flirting with the production as it strings him along from verse to verse. Saeed has proven himself a force to be reckoned with in the Chicago area and all of the Underground community. Look out for more from the artist on the Nefarious Blog!

Down Silence & Gussi Chamberlain - Exposure

A collaboration between Down Silence and Gussi Chamberlain, Exposure slows our playlist down a few bpms and adds beautiful guitar progressions and rightly placed hi-hats to complete the solid production. The vocals on this track are amazing and you could coast off them, alone, for the entire three minutes.

The fluttery melody gives the low-tempo beat to cruise all the way through the duration of the track beautifully.

MainCiaga - Drippin (prod. YeahthisMoh)

MainCiaga is a Canada-bred rap artist, based out of Calgary, Alberta. Ciaga has just released the video for his new song Drippin, produced by YeahthisMoh and shot by Alp Ardic. The soft beat with the light-hearted 808s and hi-hats pave a smooth road for Ciaga to steer his lyricism and flows along the beat.

It becomes a nice foundation for the grungy and heavy lyrics Ciaga spits overtop, and the video is honestly simply a good time. Take a look and leave a like!

Chachi - Murder Capital

IMG_2978.jpg

What’s up Chachi! It’s been a while since we had you on Nefarious Suppy! So to get this new year started what’s new with you give us some updates on what’s happening with you, your music, and Chanel Gang?

First off Happy 2020 to the Nefarious Family! It’s been a hectic time since we last talked, I’ve been just working trying to stay consistent as possible. I dropped two tapes in 2019 one being my second collab with my bro and “Chanel Gang” Member Doc Drvddy titled Doc & Chachi 2: “How High” and My First Ever Solo Ep “Murder Capital” over the summer! I got a lot of music in the vault right now as does the rest of Chanel Gang just been preparing ourselves to have a big decade for these 20s!

So coming into 2020 what’s something you are excited about and what can your fans expect from you in the coming year?

Just excited to embark on this new decade can’t wait to see transitions in not only my music but music in general. My Fans can expect double the content they got from me this past year meaning Tapes Videos and just our good content and just giving them a better opportunity to get to know me a bit more!

Tell us about your latest release Murder Capital EP, what inspired it, and how does this latest body of work fit into your artistic image?

I and the Last Cult decided to part ways this past year but that’s still Family the bro Cobraz should have some New Content on the way soon. What Inspired my “Murder Capital” EP was just being a Washingtonian and showing people roots of DC Street Culture that molded the city into what it is today while also shedding light on problems occurring now far as our battle with Gentrification and DC Culture being diminished. Also just letting the youth of this area know that they can do shit and be stars themselves I think it helps with my artistic image to let people know I can be serious and rap about topics of meaning that actually matter!

So you and Doc Dvrddy are like Young Thug and Gunna every time you guys get together the product is heat! And you continue that trend on the trackWeeks”. How is it working with him in the studio and how does your creative process mesh with his?

IMG_2977.jpg

Lmaooo appreciate that foreal just tryna be the best we can be! It’s always a movie every time we in the studio I’ve known him for damn near 20 years so we already know wassup with each we pump songs out quick together usually even on our last two projects we finished both in a matter of a couple of months! Our creative processes mesh well cause we brothers at the end of the day we just be on the same page and we both want this shit real bad so we just bring genuine love to each track we make!

Walk us through each track, and what is your favorite track and why?

Well, there’s 6 songs and 2 interludes on the EP and I’m pretty much just giving you an in-depth look of what’s going on in Washington, DC along with introducing everyone to who I am and just things I’ve dealt with in the past couple of years with life and music! No funny but every song I dropped is my favorite even the interludes there are songs that stick out such as “Darkside” and “My Time Is Now” but every song and interlude on there has a unique story you just have to listen but front to back I think it’s a great listen if you actually listen you find a lot of hidden gems in it.

Are we going to get any visuals for Murder Capital?

IMG_2323.JPG

Q. Tell us about yourself and what you’re trying to accomplish.

A. Hey Im Tino ! I grew up in the heart of downtown Athens, Greece and moved to the United States at the age of nine. I grew up in a family of hard working men, and my mother introduced me to all kinds of music as I got older. Being from Greece, music partakes a huge role in daily life, so I have always loved music, I always found beauty in the art.

So when I moved to the States I started to learn how to play wind and string instruments. As I grew older I started to appreciate sounds and melodies, so I decided to create some of my own. I noticed the American music industry started to flood with nonsense, no true music, just entertainment for the youth. I guess it sparks a bit of anger in my heart, so i quit making rap and I started to create a sound of my own, a sound that is unique to my own life. I don't mind not being recognized, and i'm not asking everyone to like my music, I just want to create something for people to listen to and say: “This, this is real music”.

Q. What is the music scene like in your area? What makes it special to you?

A. Although most artist from the DMV are rappers, I still appreciate the culture and energy. A lot of young artist in the DMV have a story behind their music. I do not listen to rap but when a unique artist comes to town I always love a fun night with some music, any music, because at the end of the day music brings us together, it brings joy and peace to us.

How would you describe your music to someone new to it?

My music has a very European sound to it, so it might not be for anyone. But if you’re in a club with some night lights, my music is exactly what you would play to get everybody grooving.

Q. Where do draw inspiration from?

A. My true motivation comes from my father, we fled our home and came to the States with only $300 cash in our hands. Within a few years he had put a roof over my families head and more food on the plates then I could have imagined. I could not  be more proud. Although my musical inspirations comes from the European culture I grew up around, as well as some amazing artists from the 60’s, 80’s and 90’s. I’ve always had a sweet spot for House music and Alternative psychedelic rock. But when I explored deeper into those genres I fell deeply in love.

Q.How do these elements incorporate into your music?

A.I often get told I have a very European sound, of course that is because I have European blood. I'm the type of guy who goes to a club alone just to listen to music. There's always this voice in my head that guides me into making a European type of beat, most often it will turn out to be a house beat. My vocals are heavily inspired by psychedelic sounds, no fast verses, just mellow deep vocals, almost like the feeling you get when you feel like you’re falling while laying bed. I love mellow music, it chills up my spine and massages my ears. I don't make rap because it sounds very dry, unless im telling a story, though I would not consider that rap.

Q. Where do you listen to on a day to day basis? Top 5 list of artists/albums?

A. On a day to day basis I listen to new artist and new music. Although if I had to listen to five artists for the rest of my life I guess my playlist would consist of artists like:

-DJ Boring ( For Tahn )

-Tame Impala ( Any album they are perfection )

-The Doors ( Waiting for the Sun )

-So Inagawa ( Sputnik EP )

-The Stone Roses ( Stone Roses )

Q. Do you ever collaborate with people in your area? If so who and why?

IMG_0101.PNG

A. I only collaborate with my team, Safe Haven. We have made this team because we are the only ones who understand each others goal with music, we all share a similar childhood. We all grew up in foreign families and some of us have European backgrounds so we know exactly what we like to make. There are many talented kids who I have worked with in the past and I have nothing against them, we just don't float in the same boat when it comes to genre of music.

Q. Anybody you want to collaborate with?

A. I would definitely want to work with some big names like Tame Impala, Diplo, So Inagawa, Frits Wentik, Ian Brown and many many more artists.

Q. What do you think personally sets you apart from the rest of your peers in the music industry? What do you bring to the industry that you believe no one else has the ability to bring?

A. In 2019 the music industry is filled with disrespect forclout”. There is no appreciation for ones talent, as long as people act a fool and get retweets and likes, thats all that matters. I listen to some of the most talented kids in the music industry and they get no appreciation for what they make. As for myself, I dont make music for everyone. My music is made for a good night out with the team, I make music to lighten the mood, I make music to put a smile on one’s face, Its all about love and appreciation of sound. Ever since the early 2000’s the music industry has changed for the worse, that’s why Safe Haven is here to change that.

IMG_0104.JPG

Q. What can we expect from the future of your content and why should we keep listening?

A, The music is only going to get better, I am an artist of music, not an artist of gerne. Alternative EP’s are on  the way. In the meantime I supply my feed with dance/house music. The people should continue listening because I guarantee a supply of music this era has not heard of, house has been around since the 70’s, but not with a psychedelic twist.

At the moment I create my sounds on FL Studio with two KRK’s and a scarlett microphone, nothing more, nothing less. I lock myself in my basement for hours on hours and I work completely on my own so the sound quality is not the greatest but time will pay it self.

Q. Walk us through the steps you take to create a track. What is your creative process? Do you happen to just walk into the studio and throw some beats on until one sticks? Or is there a more delicate process involved?

A. I am a very appreciative male, I take walks in the forest and sit on cliffs admiring every view I see. While I sit in silence I listen to my surroundings, waterfalls and birds chirping gives me inspiration for my next instrumental. I focus on my inner feelings to guide me towards the story I seek to tell. Then I go home and pour my thoughts into my speakers. My home studio is always dim lit, I cannot work in a bright environment as it forces my feelings to be bright and uplifting, causing me to get distracted from my inner self. I always start with a melody and some kicks to begin the process towards the mood of the track.

Q. Tell us about your newest projects and how it came about.

A. I recently took a trip to home, Greece. I partied through sunset to sunrise with my best friends. Many nights of nothing but laughs and stupidity. So when I came back to the States I wrote a few songs with my brother @bludreamin. We released one of them, move with it. It tells a story about partying in the streets of Europe while falling in love with a girl who ceases to exist. The soothing vocals gives that after party comforting feeling. I have an upcoming project which will contain the same feeling with different stories.

IMG_8548.jpg

Q. What song would you recommend people start listening to that would get into your music and understand where you are coming from?

A. Move With It ft. Bludreamin. It's not very well mixed as I mixed and mastered the entire track, but it introduces the lister to what I have to offer, I add a little rap ish feeling to it so the listener gets drawn in and the blu reels the listener in by harmonizing into a mellow musical “hug”.

Q, How has your experience in the music industry been thus far?

A. It has been absolutely amazing, working with talented artists has made me appreciate all sorts of music. I have been going to a lot of shows and every time I fall deeply in love with the culture. I want to thank some artists for bringing me to some of their shows and giving me lots of fun nights. Shout out the kid ChanelChachi and The Khan for bringing me out, love the energy and the commitment to their craft.

Q. Finally is there anything you want to say to end off the interview ? Anything you want to plug or announce?

CBRZ

IMG_1259.jpeg

CBRZ is an up and coming artist in the DMV and has been trying to make a name for himself in the hip hop scene. Working with talents such as Chachi, CBRZ is making a positive effect on the hip hop scene by spreading his music and love for the craft. Nefarious supply stands behind all of the artists it can, and CBRZ is no exception to this.

Q.

Who is CBRZ? Tell us a bit about yourself and why you got into the industry.

A:

IMG_0196.jpg

My name is CBRZ short for COBRAZ. I’m originally from Dakar Senegal located in West Africa But I’ve spent most of my life in the US. I’ve always had a love for music since I was young, I spent most of my schooling years in band and choir while also making songs with my friend and his older brother in their basement. When I finally met my group everything sort of clicked from the start and we’ve been working since!

 Q:

How would you describe your music to somebody who hasn’t heard of you before?

A:

It kind of varies; I’d say it’s a mixture of Alternative,Pop,Rap,and Rock music.

 Q:

Where are you representing and why is it so important to you? What makes your scene special to you.

A:

I represent Senegal my homeland,The United Sates, and The United Kingdom. All of them have had a major impacts on my life and inspire a lot of my music. The scenes in Maryland & D.C. will always have a special place in my heart because of the love I receive. So it’s only right to give credit where it’s due.

 Q:

Who inspires you to make music? Where do you get inspiration for your sound?

A:

I’m a big fan of alternative music; I get a lot of inspiration from artists like Sampha and The Drums.Aside from them I’m just a music lover so inspiration can come from any genre; but inspiration for my lyrics primarily comes from life experiences, trips, and interactions with the people around me.

Q.

Who in the DMV do you listen to and what do you like about their music?

A:

In all honesty, the only music from the area I listen too is produced by Last Cult. I haven’t had a chance to listen to all the other up and coming artists fully yet, but I plan to catch up in the next few months.

 Q:

Do you ever collaborate with other artists in the area? Is there anybody you would love to have as a feature or collaborate with?

 A:

I’ve collaborated on a few tracks with Chachi (Such as “Okay”) as well as other members of Last Cult. For now I’m trying to keep my collaborations in house while I continue to develop my sound.

Q.

What albums and songs do you already have out that people should listen to? Any specific song that really shows your style?

A:

So far I have four songs out: +44, Okay, From Afar, and Count It Up. I’d say Count It Up definitely showcases my versatility.

 Q:

Is there any one song that you’ve made that stands out from the rest? One that really puts what you do into perspective?

A:

+44 is my personal favorite; I think that it gives the listener a more emotional and raw version of my sound. If the listener wants to have an idea of the type of music I make I definitely recommend listening to +44.

 Q:

Can you tell us anything about future projects?

A:

All I can say is this summer I plan on dropping my first project

 Q:

On your Instagram you shared that you had been shot in both legs? If your comfortable sharing I bet people would like to hear the story .Does this change your view on life and does it affect your music?

A:

If you want to know, I recommend listening closely to my song “Okay” I talk about everything there. The entire experience has definitely given me a new perspective on life. I’m so grateful to be here, and I think that message is prominent in my newer songs.

 Q:

Do you have any last thoughts before the end of the interview? Any message you really want to get out to the people and your fans?

A:

First and Foremost I’d like to say thank you to Xavier, Wesley, and the entire Nefarious Supply team for talking to me; Thank you so much to all of my listeners, your love and support means the world to me; And thank you to my family and friends, without you guys I wouldn’t be here.

Big shout out to CBRZ for the interview most of his music can be found on Last Cult Records Soundcloud above and you can stay up to date with him via his Instagram. If you enjoyed this interview make sure to leave a big like and comment what you think of CBRZ music so far. Chanel Chachi

Chachi is a young aspiring artist from the Washington D.C. , one we are very happy to add to our roster of talents that have been featured on the Nefarious Supply. Below we interview him to learn more about who he is the reason behind the music he makes.

Q:

Who is Chachi? Tell us a bit about yourself and why you got into the industry

A:

My name is Chachi. I’m 21 years old from Uptown, Washington D.C., born and raised. Music was one of my first loves till this day you can ask anybody I can’t go anywhere without Music

I’ve been making music for 6 years but only been consistently dropping this past year. I got into the industry because I have an extreme love for this shit Music just takes me to another place.

Mentally I don’t even have the words for it.

Q:

How would you describe your music to somebody who hasn’t heard of you before? How would you convince them to listen and keep listening?

A:

I guess you can say it’s high energy with a lot of hidden bars that you really have to listen to to

catch, but that’s just the stuff that has been released so far.

I have music that sounds nothing like the songs I have already out but I guess they’ll just have to wait and see. I don’t wanna be cliche and say my music is diverse but I make mood music meaning however my mood was at the time will reflect on the direction of the song.

Q:

Where are you representing and why is it so important to you?

We represent lots of DMV artists so tell us why it’s so good to be representing the DMV?

A:

I’m representing Uptown, Washington D.C. and it’s important because this is my stomping ground.

Even though all the fucking genchis are moving in, I still love this shit it’s just what I was born on.

As far as why it’s good to be representing the DMV is cause we got some of the best undiscovered culture and musical talent in the world and it’s just the early stages still but I don’t even think people realize how big this shit could get but its coming.

Q:

Who inspires you to make music? Where do you get inspiration for your sound?

A:

Nobody really inspires me to make music.

I’m more inspired by seeing the affect it has on people and how one song can change the mood or energy in any place. Inspiration for my sound comes from a lot of places.

I grew up listening to pretty much everything I never really discriminated.

Most of My influence comes from the likes of Three 6 Mafia, Dmx, Limp Bizkit, Eddie Vedder, Biggie, Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Lil Wayne , Tyler and my Leo Brother Keef.

Q:

Who in the DMV do you listen to and what do you like about their music?

A:

I be tryna listen to everybody in the area when I get the chance, cause we got a lot of hard shit

coming out right now. But mostly I be listening to the gang like Khan, Mahi Montana,Redd, Doc

Drvddy, Nappy Nappa, WiFiGawd, Cbrz, MARTYHEEM, Auto Lola, Lil Xelly, Fat Vaughn,

Flipp, JimmyOg, SAGE, Valentino, Blu, Charlie Monroe and Spaceking I guess by knowing

them I just hear their music different.

Q:

Do you ever collaborate with other artists in the area? Is there anybody you would love to have as a feature or collaborate with?

A:

Yeah mainly the gang tho that’s all I be really tryna work with and I don’t really be geeking to do any features but if someone wants to collab I’m never opposed making something

Q:

What platform can people reach your content on the most conveniently? What albums and songs do you already have out that people should listen to?

A:

My Music can be found on all Platforms from Spotify, Apple Music. and SoundCloud just search up Chachi  and you’ll find it. I only have 4 singles out at the moment which are Grip, LaChat, Run Up The Racks, and War and I have a mixtape out with My bro Doc Drvddy titled Doc & Chachi: Up in Smoke go listen to all dat cuz I’m about to have a lot of new content coming!

Q:

Is there any one song that you’ve made that stands out from the rest? One that really puts

what you do into perspective?

A:

One song that has really stood out is “La chat” and I have the remix dropping soon with the Legendary La Chat herself.

But I don’t think it puts what I do into perspective.

I think people just like it because the video has girls in it, but it’s just a small part.
