Savvy what’s up bro we’re beyond excited to have you back on the platform last time we featured you had just dropped your single Bag/Purse so what have you been up to since then?
Honestly everything has been directed towards the album for like the past 6 months or so. I kinda broke everything into 3 phases and just went from there all the way up until now.
How was the rest of your 2020? Did you do anything exciting for Christmas and New Year and what are some of the goals you are hoping to accomplish for 2021?
Man Christmas was great , got to spend it with my brothers and family friends. As well as my new years eve. 2020 was a crazy year but i cant say that it was a bad one , i learned a lot and had some of my biggest successes in 2020. My biggest goal for this year was centered around the longevity of the album and its run. I want to tap in to the audience more than anything and hold the attention of my fans and supporters as long as i can with this album.
In terms of new music what songs have you been bumping daily, and what is your current favorite album right now?
Close to You - Frank Ocean , Get Her Back - Robin Thicke , Free Will - Mike Floss Alot of Take 6 , gospel music has started to come back into the rotation alot. Album wise ive definietly been bumping Mike Floss latest Ep. Nashdrill is a thing and hes killing it right now. Gods Leather if you havent heard it yet.
So you just put out your newest project Boys Wear Pearls tell us about this new project including what inspired the project, what is the meaning behind the name, and how long have you been working to put it together?
The whole idea behind the album is literally to come of as seriously not serious. For it to be organic. The title boys wear pearls comes from my love of accesories and jewelry. Alot of times when you see pearls they are owned by those of the higher class and mostly white women so to see a young black man wearing pearls in this society is almost like a contradiction within itself. The name of the album also alludes to the idea that at this point adolescence and luxury are meeting. With boys wearing pearls it is displaying that nice things arent excluded to those of a certain age but that anyone can experience luxury within thier own life.
So walk us through each of the songs on this project, what they mean to you, and what is your favorite song on BWP?
I wanted every song to be as if it is from a different boys perspective. So all in all the album is about perspective. I think my favorite song would have to be Zack and Cody. It feels the most natural and honestly was set in place before it even was written. Just from using that solange sample to kinda be the mantra of everything bwp , finally sampliling it was the finishing touch to the album.
So you carry the project by yourself for most of the song but you tap in three talented artists including Chuck Indigo, A.G. Sully, and Brian Brown. What made you tap them in on the project and describe your experience working with them on each of these songs?
All three of them are artist who have made some of my favorite songs and are like my favorite artist from the city. They all bring a different emotion to the album as well and i wanted to make sure that if anyone listened to the album they were getting a well rounded taste of the sound from Nashville. Also i have been big fans of them since ive moved to nashville.
In addition to the artists, what producers did you work on the project?
Its fun that all the producers on the album are close friends, alot of artist can say that and im proud that i can. But heres all the producers that had hands on the album;
Enxgma - down to earth , zack & cody
Dmndstr - cannot do , shameless , zack & cody
Cam.flp- spain, fallout boy, take our time,
Lloyd Flannel - spain
Myself - From Me
So in terms of visuals do you plan on releasing anything to accompany this project and if so what songs?
Only thing i have to say to that is , shoutout Josh Nachoz
