Fresh Finds

UpNext 2022 - January 30, 2022

Now it hasn’t been that long since 2022 started (though it feels like forever, looking at you January!) however the music that has come out in the past few weeks has been phenomenal and these new artists coming up need to be on your radar this year! What we’ve learned as members of the underground and growing alongside this community is that it is ALWAYS buzzing, and there is always new talent to be found.

From the subcultures of hyperpop where EDM, Rap, and Pop come together for a beautiful aesthetic, new champions of the sound for example digicore and dariacore, are becoming more prevalent in the community. With artists coming together to create super groups dedicated to furthering their sound.

Among them is the talented GORESET with standout acts this year Rouri404, Vaeo, and Tsuyunoshi dropping absolute heat the past week with their new projects “GORE” and “2004”. Other great upcoming performers in the genre are artists such as weial (representing gunrange), often forgotten (representing m1thril), and kiryuu.A light glance elsewhere and we’re suddenly met with sweeping trap beats, flourishing boombap and old hip-hop samples, and deep, introspective lyricism. In the form of Van Buren Records, hip hop has reached different heights.

In the same vein upcoming gems, new acts such as Sincere Hunte and upcoming rap group JOCLYNBURBANK are giving the scene a fresh take on conscious rap. Other class acts with a beautiful repertoire of sounds include Bryan Cheru, mowop, ILY Truly, Jack$on Grey, and YGTUT. These standout stars are ones you all need to have your radar on this year.2022 is the year for the underground, and we’ll here with you every step of the way.

SoundCloud Gems

AAKHU - Giveon - Garden Kisses (House Remix

IMG_4409.jpeg

AAKHU has been a fan favorite of Nefarious for years, everything the DMV diamond drops becomes a gem, and with his dip into the wave of house production, his spin on Giveon’s Garden Kisses is a beautiful example of the artistry he can provide by simply adding a touch of his own sound.

Rell Chanel - RUNNIN’ [REMIX]

Rell Chanel’s debut project isn’t out yet, but with the release of his track HILLS, got us as hyped as possible for what he has in store for us. However, as a surprise gift, Chanel also dropped the RUNNIN’ [REMIX] track, which boasts playful, yet deep 808s and cheeky samples here and there that come together to paint a beautiful world for the new artist to play in. Don’t sleep on Rell Chanel, tune in if you know the vibes.

Meech - Sometimes Pain Can Be A Drug Too Pt. IV

As if a gift before the gift, Meech of Van Buren Records dropped an incredible three minutes (and then some) of incredible introspection, truth-telling, and reminiscence. On what seems to be the fourth installment of this series, Meech speaks on topics of getting older, not being able to deal with trauma the same way anymore, and still being connected to God even though he’s long since escaped the church. Now he’s looking to the future, finally ready to embrace the fame he’d been so scared of reaching for years prior. He has a team, he has a vision, and he has the passion. He can’t quit now. The future’s right there.

Doc Drvddy - S P I R I T (prod. jkj)

IMG_4404.jpeg

Now Doc Drvddy has been apart of our hub since we we’ve started, a long-time favorite of the collective, Drvddy slides the best on atmospheric dreamy beats, grounded in light trap foundations, and boy does he and producer, jkj, deliver on S P I R I T. With beautiful flows and effortless lyricism the DMV native reminds us why he’s one of the hottest rappers out here.

Juice WRLD - Call Her Coraline (prod. By Jaden’s Mind)

IMG_4410.jpg

Now Juice WRLD is a weird ender for this article, but considering we’re delving into the world of Soundcloud, I would love to shed some light on some amazing producers as well. For one, there’s Jaden’s Mind. An upcoming soundcloud producer who we actually originally found on Youtube. His remixes to famous Juice WRLD songs not only add another seven-to-ten layers of storytelling to Juice’s lyricism, but completely drags you into a new world, one where you couldn’t at first see Juice thriving. But of course, this is Mr. 999, and Jaden’s Mind take’s that aesthetic by the reins.

Off the meteoric release of their incredible debut single, “Memphis”, AG Club has been tirelessly working on their craft month after month for the entirety of 2020, with releases such as “Columbia” and “Memphis, Pt. 2”. The genreless Avant-Garde Club, as they have been self-titled blasted onto the scene in early 2020 with their debut album, “HALFWAY OFF THE PORCH” which included former member and producer for the group, Loui.

The project featured a couple of  Nefarious favorites, including HNGOVER and DUSK/DAWN, and was successful in bringing the collective to the heights reached in order to take their own creative stance in the music industry.

Of course, there are comparisons, with the Club having been linked to the likes of Brockhampton and Odd Future, but they themselves were also products of their environment, such as AG Club, and they themselves thrived in the field of music, despite the critics and bandwagoners of hate and undermining. The Avant-Garde Club is a unique mix of style and substance.

With Jody Fontaine acting as the lead rapper of the group, who also sings and composes, in addition to handling the marketing, business side of things with a hand in the creative concepts, other members such as Baby Boy, arguably the second most memorable member of the group, to create the world in which the Club lives, through things like music videos and graphic design.

Manny, the main video editor of the Club makes sure their ideas come to life with encompassing video production and management of their 777 Media company. Mick Anthony, the final member, adds a solemn and somber tone to the group, rounding them full circle from energetic and braggadocious, to sentimental and introspective.

All in all the AG Club is one for many to keep their eyes, and with their newest releases, “Truth” and “UGUDBRU” the sky is the limit and they know that better than anyone else. We’re excited to see what the future holds for the AG Club and we’re happy to share with you guys their journey to the top, because we know that’s where their headed, no matter what.

somewhere between psychotic and iconic...
